Character Homeworlds

How do people out there plan to handle characters' homeworlds?

IMO, if the Referee has an campaign area planned (a certain subsector), then most characters would come from homeworlds in that subsector or perhaps the subsectors bordering it - rather than being generated randomly.

Of course, for that to be viable, the Ref would need the UWPs of the systems in that subsector before character generation starts.

Interesting question. In our game, we were all serving in the same subsector and mustered out there. Since many were military or scouts with reasonable amounts of service, the Ref didn't put any limits on where we originated, reasoning that out service could account for us coming from nearly anywhere.

However, with new players he took a different approach; he told the new person to come up with a character concept that would explain where they came from and why they did what they did in life. He'd discuss it with them until they settled on the likely homeworld and it's tech level.

Excellent idea Kane - the Home world would effect the charactures outlook on almost everything....eating,drinking,fighting,politics,religion....aggesiveness...on and on....ect, ect,ect...

In a small campaign, like the RC one of two subsectors, unless playing an Imperial remnant (and Skies the limit there!). A Free Trader, any where adjacent to the two RC subsectors in a 360 degree arc.
For a non TNE campaign, depends on the path the ref has outlined...start small, N' work outward, or work inwards on subsector or peripheral systems. My Old GM in CT insisted there be a Base in system for those with Joining the Scouts or Military careers. (Hence almost 99.98% of my Scouts came from Hefry/ Regina/ Spinward marches...)
