Total Recall 2012 (new movie)

Well, that trailer shows more promise than the first one I saw :) (which was all flash and car-chases, there wasn't even any dialog in it)

Are you sure you are recalling the right movie? :)

I recall it had psionics, ancients, portable holographic projectors, and decompression - not to mention a, er, hot fight scene.

Meh. I liked the original and was hoping that this was just a redo with better special effects. I do like the Blade Runner-esque look. I might watch it when it hits rental status.

Well, one could always just ignore the film version you don't like. ;)

I thought this one was interesting in it display of the future world that some here might find it of interest.

Or possibly find a world in YTU that might mirror this version of the story.

Yes, you misunderstood my perhaps poorly structured sentence above :)

I was referring to the first trailer I saw for the new movie, which was all flash and (flying)car-chases with no dialog in the selected scenes. Had me wondering if this new one was going to be an attempt to resurrect the silent moving picture age ;)

Doh - yeah, I misread that! :o

But it did get me in mind of re-watching the old one - been a few years (ha!, Arnold hadn't even made Governator last I saw that flick...).

I can't tell whether it is an attempt at a remake or a sequel. The original was okay. This doesn't look any better.

A lot of PKD's stories have been made into movies, but overall, I have not been overwhelmed.

I saw the trailer a few days ago and I thought one of the shots was a blatant rip-off of the Matrix. And I can't stand that greasy Colon Ferule chappie.

The Matrix? Ahh yes - the good one before the sequels that shall not be mentioned.

Looks more like Bladerunner with the brightness turned up to me.

I wish they'd stop remaking the same movies, there are so many writers, so many books, so many stories out there. Film those!

That's a very good point! :) I'm a writer myself...

Oh by the way, shouldn't this thread be in the "Random Static" forum?

More like Trademark. Given current copyright laws and their extension trends, nothing post WWII will exit copyright protections.

Trademarks, however, require constant nurturing to be retained. You have to actively defend them and, if not used nor defended, even if registered, they can lapse.

They remake in order to maintain copyright or something...

I rather think they remake all these movies because the people in film now are of an age where they probably saw these as kids and wanted to remake the film the way they wanted it to be. Or that might be giving them too much credit and the simpler explanation is that in a time when The Three Stooges and Dark Shadows are resurrected, not to mention everything else that really didn't need to be redone when the technology to make anything is available, then creativity and imagination is dead in Hollywood.

Oh, and BTW, the film wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything all that great either. Just kind of "there". This has been a sloooow summer for films....Prometheus, The Avengers. That's about it, really.
