2 Questions: Distance scale + Visual encounter ranges

Hi all. Coupla newbie questions.
1. The t20 book describes Tactical and Strategic scale. Doing the math, my best guess is Tactical = 75m and Strategic = 1500m per hex/square. Is this accurate? Also, when doing vehicle movement(non starship) should I use squares or hexes? This is more to show travel than to fight. I'm not ready for vehicle combat yet.
2. On the Visual Encounter Ranges table(p.147), the distances seem high. Jungle is listed at 750m avg. How can anyone see that far in a jungle. Am I completely misreading/misunderstanding the table? Any help would be appreciated. My campaign starts in 3 weeks and I don't want to eff up.

Remember that in CT:Book 1, the Terrain DM for "Jungle, Rainforest is "-", or zero.

I always thought it was a bit odd, but no more odd than any particular RPG mechanical weirdness.

750m does seem excessive for "Junge, Dense Forest". I'd think 75m-100m might be better, but even that would be hearing rather than sight (and that would be in a quiet forest, a jungle might be a lot louder).
