It's possible that over time some generalities or patterns might be recognized between individuals. Enough so that over time an individual's patterns might be inferred well enough to get a high proportion of reliable transcription of thoughts.

This could have huge implications for medical ethics, if it goes that way.

Still, I can't help thinking of the Captain in Dark Star. :D

Medical? Try prosecutorial ethics! Being able to read someone's inner monologue...

Which would violate a U.S. Citizen's 5th Amendment right to not incriminate oneself.

I haven't really decided whether this is creepy or cool. I bet it would help my cousin who has Retts Syndrome and doesn't speak. But just think of the corrupt people that would misuse it.

Doesn't that happen with most tech advances (being able to be used in several ways, some helping, some scaring)?
