A Proto-Traveller Game?

erisred

SOC-12
Okay, so is anyone, actually, *up* for a game set in a Proto-Traveller type universe? It would have to be play by email, or by Web Forum, or IRC, but how about it?

What I have in mind is a Merchantile Exploration campaign. It would be based roughly on Leviathan where a fledgling line sends a small ship into a, mostly, unexplored subsector to a) gather data (figure out UWP's, survey for minerals or other profitable products, etc) and b) negotiate for, or set up, trade offices (with local brokers/factors) on potentially "profitable" planets. The line hopes to set up some routes into this area based on the results from this mission.

The ship would be in the 200 dton range and have a crew of 4 to 6 (something like: pilot/navigator, engineer, a gunner or two, a trader, medic, and one or two scientist/surveyor/scouts where the PCs can take on either one or two of the functional areas). The ship would have to have the ability to cross 3 parsec gaps (J2 with fuel for a second J1?), be armed with sandcasters and lasers, and have some legs (M2?), also for defense.

As for the subsector, it could be completely Ref created or something out of the early CT books. However, in there, there would be unsettled worlds, independent worlds, very small pocket empires, TL's that range from 0 to A+, pirate bases, aliens, unhelpful to unfriendly Naval and/or Scout assets from one or more empires, and maybe competing merchant explorer teams who might help you, attack you straight up, or befriend and then stab you in the back.

I'd *like* to play in this game! :D However, if no Refs step up, and there is a lot of serious interest, I'll consider running it as a PBEM.

So, is anyone interested?

I tried this already, up in "Adventurers." If you'd like to take a look and breathe new life into it, go ahead.
