A Short Walk

Assume a scenario similar to Across the Bright Face, except the walk is shorter and there's no ATV.

Given such a walk across inhospitable terrain, what sorts of obstacles and puzzles could the referee present to players?

* fissures
* a prospector's pressure tent
* extremophile life
* rockslides, unstable ground, "gopher holes"
* weather
* a cave (natural or otherwise)
* pursuit by bad guys

As you walked along, the ground was covered with ice crystals in a variety of hues over a field of white. Dozens of muti-colored stars dotted the bottom of this large crater. The ice crunched beneath your feet and small puddles formed where you stepped, but froze almost instantly. Without warning, a geyser of orange steam erupted from a small vent hole about 20 meters from where you were walking and quickly froze, falling as an orange snow over part of the previous red snow that had painted the ground. It was all quite beautiful and you took a hologram of the eruption and a second of one of the party playing in the snow. Then you continued on.

Assuming the world is vacuum like Dinom...

Meteor storm - No flaming rocks through the sky, but craters suddenly appearing around them. They may even think someone is shooting at them.

Solar storm - No atmosphere, no magnetics. Betta find somewhere safe.

A radioactive hot spot - someone has been dumping their waste here. Someone who would be unhappy about their secret getting out.

A huge gold nugget - came from a meteor and is just sitting there. Will the PC on limited life support be willing to try and drag a 300kg nuggest with them for a hundred miles.

Robotic miner - a giant robotic strip miner chugs along and almost 'mines' the PCs if they dont get out of the way. It ignores them as 'organic detrius' and wont respond to hails.

Given a need for environment suits, an increasing chance of suit failure as time goes by.

Not a good thing if the waste recycler goes.

Earthquakes, either conventionally or triggered by meteor strikes.

Ship crash sites.

Abandoned settlements/mining camp.

Not so abandoned.....

Crazy prospector.

Ship trash (maybe it's actually a hazard, making ground slippery or eat/tear through suits).

Electromagnetic anomaly, interrupts radio, radar and/or navigation.
