Adventure 0 ???

Blue Ghost

SOC-14 5K
Knight
Okay, I hit Marc Millers Far Future site the other day, cruised the Classic Traveller guide PDF, and noted a couple of adventures title "Adventure Zero", that apparently came with the original boxed version of the game.

Huh.

I've never heard of these, and I've been with Traveller since... 1979? 1980?

Can someone elaborate on these for me?

**EDIT**
It was called "The Imperial Fringe". I've never heard of it before, much less play it.

First I ever saw it was with the Reprints. I think it came with Starter Traveller.

Gave the adventurers a starting point for a campaign by:

Spoiler:
having a Scout Patron assign them a Spinward Marches-wide survey mission, allowing the group to travel to each world in the sector.

Fairly simple Campaign Hook for the party, basic run down, PC's get in to a Bar Fight and make contact with Patron #0 who asks them to contact him at his office some time soon. Patron #0 is a bigwig in IISS Admin, he offers them a job (and a ship if they need it) working as part of the Survey Audit process. they have 20 years to prepare a UPP report on every non-interdicted world in the Spinward marches these reports can be turned in at any Scout base or X-Boat Station, If they can do the job in less than 20 years they get a fat bonus on turning in the last report, also if they Survey the Interdicted worlds and turn in the reports in person to Patron #0 at his office he will give them a hefty under the table payment. to help them along their way they get the same deal as detached duty scouts for their ship, if they have no ship they get a Type S for the duration.

giving 10 days per jump, Yearly maintenance, backtracking and so on it will take the party apx 15.6 years to do the job and make their way back to Patron #0 with their last Red Zone UPP, if they just mail in their Green & Amber reports it will take them apx 9.7 years.

The start date is 1105 and time doesn't take in to account the outbreak of the 5FW or any substantial side adventures, but if your quick with some worlds you may be able to bank some time for Amber Zones.

Deluxe, not Starter.

Very cool. Yeah, it was probably deluxe and not Starter because I have Starter. Wow, I wish I could've gone through that with one of my gaming groups.

As a GM I use a cut down version of it as a kick off to many campains, the Survey is only of the Subsector most only take about a year even allowing for Amber Zones and even one or two full blowen adventuers. I think the PDF of A0 is avalible on Drive Thru RPG for a few bucks, I know it's included on the Canon CD.

Just checked it is available on drivethry RPG for three bucks US, on sale down from five.

Adventure 0

Yes its on the CT canon CD

and its a really nice plot hook that can easily be the basis for a small to medium sized group campaign..(I used it once upon a time as the basis for a campaign that lasted 4 real years with about half the adventures being one nighters and the other half being episodic in nature) Lots of nice side line runs ..Took the party thru almost 20 years of game time..(the time frame set in the original was no where near long enough to survey all the systems ..just the main worlds ..

Made getting the party into troubles and adventures easy ..and was a lot of fun to run ..

Adventure 0

Was indeed part of a starter package, if you search traveller roleplaying or my tag snapshotbygdw on YouTube you will find a brief slideshow

Deluxe Starter Traveller.

It replaced Deluxe Traveller...sort of. It carried the same stock number as Deluxe Traveller, but had the two Starter Traveller rules books, an 8-page compatibility booklet, Book 0, Adventure 0, and a map of the Spinward Marches.

My copy was bought used. The books have been highlighted, and both Book 0 and Adventure 0 were missing. Fortunately I had a loose copy of Book 0 which got put into the book, but I'm still missing Adventure 0.

With all that said, despite Starter Traveller being the most "up to date" version of the Classic Traveller rules, I still prefer The Traveller Book. The one thing Starter has going for it is the starship combat rules utilizing range bands.

the copy of Starter Traveller I bought through eBay a month or so back has two adventures in it, printed back to back. One is "Mission to Mithril" and he otehr is "Shadows". I don't remember having either of those in the set I bought 30 years ago when I was in England courtesy of the USAF.

Starter Traveller came with Misson to Mithril/Shadows, Deluxe Traveller came with Book 0/Adventure 0.

Or at least my copies did....

I think it had one d6 as well, maybe two, that was many moons ago (still have it though). There was a real thin book, I think sent to me from GDW, a book zero.

Ok, now I'm sure the long time posters will correct me on this one if I'm wrong, but...

Starter Traveller consists of the rules book, the charts book, and the adventure book (Mission to Mithril, Shadows).

Deluxe Traveller is designed as an expanded newcomer's introduction to role-playing and to Traveller. It includes the Traveller rules and charts, just like the separate boxed Starter Traveller set. In addition, it contains the following materials:
The box then lists Book 0, Adventure 0, and the Spinward Marches Map. Dice aren't mentioned but are included.

What the back of the box does not mention is the 8-page additional rules booklet which is a compilation of rules which appear in Basic Traveller or The Traveller Book but not included in the Starter Traveller rules booklet. The additional rules provide complete compatibility with all Traveller rule sets. Mention of the additional rules booklet is made in the "In This Box" one sheet that came in the box.

If I recall, the original Deluxe Traveller boxes with Books 0-3, Adventure 0, and the map carried the same stock number (GDW300) that my copy of Deluxe Starter carries. Therefore, it's highly likely that this version of Deluxe replaced the older Deluxe set when Starter Traveller was introduced.

I knew of both Starter and Deluxe Traveller, but always figured Deluxe consisted solely of LBBs throughout its entire print run. Clearly that's not the case.
