The last group I Ref'ed for fit 3 of your categories... and my characters in the last game I played in fit 3 others.

Too bad you limited us to one choice... so I didn't vote.

E9504,

Let me echo BlackBat here.

At one time or another, my Traveller groups fit every one of your categories.

Whilst I voted Cargo Merchant, as that's most prevalent, But I've also run every one at least once.

Including one where the PC's were the BOD of a Sectorwide Corp...

Tammany Hall

Multi-votes spoil the results. "Vote early and often" not good if later refers to same election.

OTHER was the choice you should have made.

Ummm... in this case, multiple votes are the only way to reflect reality.

Limiting votes to only one skews the results away from what is actually done.

And voting "other" implies something "other"* than any of the listed options... not an undefined combination of them.

* funny how that works, eh?

Of course when I put up poll I was thinking current, not game types of 10 years ago. I seem to have lost that idea in translation somewhere.

I did vote 'Police/detective/security' as that may be closest to what our characters are. True, being adventurers we get to make the more unusual decisions, bending the law from time to time though not as often as the proverbial Prime Directive. ;)

The campaign that my group is currently poised to wrap up is a skip tracer game, but this was an extension of our previous merchant: both cargo and passengers campaign: we kept on in the same version of the OTU, but we changed characters, except for the company rep.

Though at one point or another we've played most of the options chosen, except for pirates and jobless travellers.

My current game has the (deposed last session) Marquis of Tahspeck, the planetary director of Ling Standard Products on Tahspeck and the Commander in charge of a small Imperial Navy system control / research base. Set in late 1130 during the early months of the Collapse.

The main PCs tend to send teams off on missions, and the players then play those teams. Next week we'll be starting with an ACQ skirmish as Ling Security storm their own shipyard orbital's control room. Some wildly unpredictable politics went down last session.

I went with merchant passenger carrying primary. Had a few good campaigns that way it is the only way to make any cash off a scout ship. Lots of possible adventure seeds and lots of places to inject some humor in too.

Other. Ex-Scouts on detached duty. Could call them 'specialist' but they're really not all that specialized, nor are they aimless odd-job wanderers.

i said "other" (roll of 6 in the draft?) since there was no multiple option. while normally my group is definitely a bunch of Shady Operators, i'm currently running them as an IN crew on a Fiery GE.

alas i rarely get to play trav anymore--i'm the main (trav) ref in our group :(

edit: but now that i've left my group, i'll be solo playing a merchant crew for the first time!
