Alternate Alternate 1116s?

Other than the OTU and Lorenverse, what other timeline splits could happen in 1116 that lead to interesting future histories?

Other than the OTU and the OTU?

If you're referring to the OTU and the GTU, they split some (undisclosed) time before 1116. The divergence just didn't hit the headlines until 1116.

Anyway, I have one idea for an alternate universe that I think has great potential, but that one splits off a few years earlier, when the Zhodani capture Rhylanor and trade it back in return for the Duchy of Regina being turned into the neutral Republic of Regina, a new buffer state.

I remember having read one where Ciencia Ipgenia survived the assasination and reigned, but I cannot remember where I did.

ITTR it was the ATU for some board member...

If my current campaign lasts that long: Whatever happens when the PCs either thwart Dulinor, make sure Imprey does his job properly or change events in whatever manner they do. :smirk:

Judging from the activities on the board, the "No Virus, no Empress Wave" timeline is a popular one - Hard Times happens, and 6 imperiums result. Advance it a hundred years or so, and see what happens.

*sigh* ;-)

I was vaguely pondering something similar, but maintaining the FFW outcome. The Zho are still desperate for Rhylanor because *CENSORED* so attempt something. Maybe diplomacy - perhaps Strephon is away from Capital having secret meetings with the Consulate, and Dulinor shoots a pseudo-bio. Crib from the start of Star Trek VI: "The Zhodani Consulate has less than 60 years of life left..." (And you get to keep the Praxis Wave animation...)

Actually I'll just go with the Rebellion occurs and Charted Space looks like the 1120 MT map*. I think GDW and DGP lost the bubble in that it was never necessary to tell the story of which faction wins. Rather the story is about the new adventure possibilities inherent in the fractured Imperium.

*With some tweaks; for example Lucan gets deposed by a cabal of admirals.

My Dark Nebula variant uses these changes to the OTU timeline; it is January 5638 AD (late 1117 Imperial), and the focus of the setting is the Solomani/Aslan border; the Imperium is only mentioned in passing as a background. The following things happened in regard to the Imperium:

1) Dulinor took the Iridium Throne directly after the assassination, and is now the titular Emperor.

2) Some Great Houses dissented against his claim to the throne and declared war on him.

3) In 1116 Imperial, the Solomani used the chaos in the Imperium to launch an assault to liberate the old Solomani Sphere. This was called the Eight Month War, and was a decisive Solomani victory, retaking Terra and the rest of the Sphere. The neighboring Great Houses had to sign an armistice with the Solomani, being forced to accept their conquest.

4) The Aslan also won massive victories against the weakened Imperium.

5) The end result is that both polities (Solomani and Aslan) are at the height of their power, and have developed a keen appetite for further conquest. The presence of the Aslan homeworld, Kuzu, as well as the dark secrets of the Dark Nebula, next to the Solomani border, are too tempting to resist; preparations for war are underway on both sides.

Which is fine, although you could achieve much the same feel in the Rule of Man, admittedly without some of the Major Races having much of a role, at least canonically.
