Amber asterisks and stars on Travellermap.com?

Does anyone know what the amber asterisks and stars on Travellermap.com? I don't recall them being there before and they're not explained in the key. See screenshots.

while I am not seeing it, does not mean it is not there. Do you have one of the experimental flags turned on? And which browser are you using (as despite standards, browsers can interpret the standards differently in so many ways!)

Not through the UI, but if you take the URL the Poster Maker generates and append the parameters the option produces on the map page -- or documented at TravellerMap.com/doc/api -- then the generated image will have them.
