AmeriCo- is the secret out?

Waldemar

AmeriCo, the Amway turned into steller mobsters, has fascinated me. I can understand its place in the 2320 AD universe, eventhough I find it a bit quaint as a leftover from the 80's.

Is AmeriCo's secret out? Is it regularly surveyed by the law enforcement authorities? Does it have too many friends in high places? Is the smuggling still hidden within the legal operations?

Are there some other sources describing the organization besides 2320 AD and the 2300 AD Adventurer's Guide?

As I run things AmeriCo is still officially clean - despite literal decades of investigations by authorities smuggling has never been linked to any higher-ups, just low-level employees apparently acting on their own. A powerful litigation department and a cadre of lobbyists makes it truly dangerous to take on, as more than one justice department has discovered.

I doubt that can continue indefinitely, though. My guess is that sooner of later AmeriCo will find it economical to defect and become the second nation-corporation. It is so much harder to investigate and arrest a rogue state. Especially one that has managed to get a few monopoly contract to important American and French colonies, has lots of blackmail material on officials and secretly promises to "play nice" (i.e. no deals with Provolution, no smuggling of tech to the Sung, continuing sabotage of independent smugglers etc).

The mission statement for AmeriCo in 2320AD wasn't cribbed from Amway, though I can see that interpretation. I went another way, based on AmeriCo being a beverage company that branched out. If you can, compare the mission statement for a famous #2 carbonated beverage company with AmeriCo's...
