Any Aeronautical Engineering Type Gearheads Know ...

... anything about the Aerospace industry's methods of calculating costs and times? I was reading a book called 'Barons Of The Sky', and one of the footnote mentioned a Martin 404 bid of '2.94 factory labor hours per pound of airframe' as the basis of the bid, but the overrruns amounted to '4.23 factory labor hours per pound of airframe, with each .1 hour amounting to $750,000 in added costs'. The book isn't clear, but it seems to involve a contract with TWA for 101 404's.

I did a search using the Factory labor hours per pound of airframe, and came up with several interesting downloads that I've yet found time to go over, including one that breaks down the times involved in using various composites A La the shipbuilding materials in MT and TNE shipbuilding rules, so I wonder if these could be used to make more 'realistic' shipbuilding rules costs and time estimates for Traveller?

Just some food for thought and maybe of interest to the hardcore type naval architects with time on their hands ...
