Argggggh! The RC Equipment Guide

Hi, I'm new in the forum, and would like to find where the f&%$ can find the "RC Equipment Guide" or something similar, 'cause I play TNE...

My next homeworld is in Europe-Terra-Sol..

It would be cool to find a source of ilustrated equipment (guns & vehicles), but I haven't found nothing with pictures.

I'd suggest Ebay. Fair amount of stuff can be located there. Another sourcebook you might find useful is the Regency Combat Vehicle Guide.

dsoldier There are some really cool things in there but there are also some real piece's of crap (sorry to offend any of the designers but there are!)I mean take the 7mm ACR for example,
it's heavier than an M60 GPMG and marginally better performance than M60 GPMG's from Twilight 2000 2nd Ed which is essentially the same game system and the 7mm ACR only carry's 20 rounds. In short it's no better than an M14, a weapon the US
military phased out back in the 60's. phew, rant over, unless you get me started on the 5.5mm weapon.
Seriously you'd be better served hunting for a copy of Fire Fusion and Steel version 1 and designing all your own stuff. And don't forget to take into account the table of materials for construction. Though none of the design sequences seem to. If you incorporate different materials tecnology you get serious weight savings. Afterall why make all your weapons etc from hard steal when you have composite laminates, Crystal iron, Super dense etc etc P.S. I wish you luck but
Ebay will probably be your best bet as previously posted.

AMEN.

It's something I never understood about near every incarnation of the game.

Apparently, beyond the 20th century, humans stopped looking for advances in weapon design.
Slug throwers, since their start have been changed to make them more efficient, lighter, easier to use accurately, and cost efficient.

And Yet..every illustration (and attached stats) show ACR's and other "advanced" firearms being ungodly big/bulky and heavy monsters that you almost need a third hand to use. Not to mention still using a grenade that get put into the muzzle and launched the same way they did in the 1920's.

UhhGGGHHH!!

New materials, better targeting, caseless ammunition, etc HAPPENS at higher TL's.
I mean, just look at the XM8 and G11 from H&K. We've got that NOW !! I'd expect things to get BETTER a few tech levels up the ladder!

Until that happens, I'll just continue to use home-brewed stuff, depicted by some of the better SciFi media weapon props.

Wait a sec some of the pictures on the T20 Artwork site seem to depict the ACR for example as being pretty compact and vicious even with the underslung grenade launcher.

Sorry,
Forgot the caveat of 'almost every' illustration.

..and in particular, I was thinking of the TNE RC Equip. Guide among others.

T20 isn't a big offender I admit, but they are still slightly bulkier than even current weapons in development.
So I still contend that, an ACR at say TL9+, should have significant advances over what's available for Terra circa 2004.
That's my point.

While I agree with you, by and large, remember that Traveller's weapons need to deal with good body armour. This means packing a serious punch becomes more important, and carrying lots of litte itty-bitty rounds loses some of its appeal.

As for the RAM grenades - at least they give a nice big bang. Grenade launchers are very nice, but they do lack payload sometimes.

I think the biggest reasons are simply that Traveller dates back to the mid-70s, and that it's an rpg. IME most players would rather fire guns that involve some sort of skill check to use than simply dial in the target parameters and give their neato, self-aiming, auto-engaging, indirect-fire, automatic grenade launcher permission to fire.

You're missing the real reason for the bulk - they tried to integrate onboard components of those 1970's era computers the gearheads are always grousing about! ;)

I figure that any PDA that could track my laundry list and phone numbers ought to way about 4 pounds using their computer tech.

Small wonder computerized guns are heavy, no? ;)

Seriously, I've found some illos (Some in MT) to be pretty good, others (T4's Arsenal comes to mind) to blow dead bears.

It's too bad they couldn't find the Traveller 2300 line art artist to do one of these. Whoever did the firearms there did a great job. Heck, I've seen some relatively incredible skins for ultra modern firearms on ghostrecon.net lately, some of which would make *excellent* models for Traveller guns (and you could probably lift the model images for 'personal use' in your games for visualizations).

OTOH, one of the TMLers ran some ballistics calcs on the original game guns, and they shoot *hot*. Very fast muzzle velocities, so maybe the greater mass was needed to deal with pretty substantial muzzle energies.

I thought those were good.

The guy did a fantastic job with the low tech firearms of making plausible designs without ripping off real world guns (giving a great feeling of alien cultures (Woah - those guys are at 1970's tech On Another Planet!)), and you can really see a progression in style as the tech level creeps upwards.

Best thing about T4 in my opinion.

I even think the battlepods could be cool if you gave them arms, although being curled up like that would be really uncomfortable without some TS tech to turn off the body.

Traveller isn't hard science, and as such one feels the need to comment that a modern super high tech spade looks much like spades have for a long time. Eventually, one will reach the the final form of any device, and after that, although you can integrate new materials and whatnot, you can't fire a bullets with any more energy cause people can't handle the recoil, and the guns are already more accurate than their users can make use of.

The future lies in directions Trav doesn't go.

Awwww Yeeeaahhh! The Reformation Coalition Equipment Guide! One of the best supplements ever released for TNE. Lots of goodies in that book. Can you say, "Guild Deck Sweeper?" I knew you could!

Didn't BTRC's "Guns, Guns, Guns!" and "More Guns!" include stats for TNE? I don't quite recall, but they were masterful products in general. They included everything from our own history far into a future including gauss rifles and energy weapons; likewise, it had a section on "Guns That Never Were" which included Martian electricity cannons and Roman assault rifles. Great stuff.

Side rant: I loved TNE but despised the kit. I guess everything in the "Far Future" is made of heavy metal. What especially pissed me off was how all the gear "gained weight" while my character low-berthed through Virus: how the hell did my battledress put on so many pounds?
