art for the stalwarts

bryan gibson

Absent Friend
banged this out recently while playing with the new tablet PC.( Blame Ted, its his fault)

The background is from an old pic back in GDW days of Beta Canum, the forground figure is my first attempt at a completely digital drawing - from first sketch to final color she was fully digital, and while Im not altogether happy with the result on the whole I found it enjoyable.

So, while the purchase on the computer elicted sever sticker shock blackouts and screaming, about ten kjinutes after drawing with the stylus the screaming stopped to be replaced by Holy Cow I LOVE this thing! And while it wasn't cheap it still comes in at half the cost of a Centiq.

Cool stuff Bryan! (I remember the original). I have to say, your art work influenced the 'fashion' of my OTU from very early on. the way your trousers on some of the art made it feel very seventies to me so our games had a style that was modern but also retro (I'm not sure that makes sense!) Also, the best art in the T20 book IMHO. Thanks again for all your past work... a pleasure on the eye.

Awesome, Bryan! I have always considered your art to be some of THE definitive stuff for Traveller and 2300 AD. Thanks for throwing such a juicy bone to this gaming dog. Hope to see a whole lot more in the time to come.

As always excellent work Bryan and I agree with the others here your artworks do set the feel to Traveller and 2300AD.

Is there a story there, or is it just for its own sake?
A little of both - I had read the blurb of something from back in th GDW days, and kind of saw this woman as one of the relief or militia fighters from the last kafer invasion - thats a kafer gun shes toting- and felt with the backdrop it would show the 2320 feel nicely.

This, along with the scratchy nature of the original sketch sort of struck my fancy, and rather than cleaning it up I left it in a scratchey , alsmost scribbled fashion rather refining it up and went straight to coloring - which i think gives it a grittier look.

One of my fave Kafer pics. Maybe it should read underneath:

Lovely stuff, Bryan. Glad to see you're getting on with the tablet. I haven't used a mouse now for anything other than FPS games for about 6 years.

Colin,

Just saw your System Ship in the "Gallery" section. Beautiful work! Both futuristic and gritty, as if those shipping containers just came out of a rail yard.
