If anyone has MGT Aslan handy: does it have a UWP listed for Wildeman (Trojan Reaches 2819)?

Thanks T. It has it and is. I'm interested to see what's in MGT Aslan.

"I'm not interested in correct." (In this instance)

So I decided to check multiple sources and here is what I have found:
SourceUWPTrade Codes
Alien Module 1: AslanB201674-CIc Na Ni Va
The Third Imperium: Trojan ReachB201674-CIc Na Ni Va
The Third Imperium: BorderlandB2011674-CIc Na Ni Va
The Third Imperium: Borderland Profile - WildmanB201674-CIc Na Ni Va
Pirates of Drinax - Key PortsB201674-CIc Na Ni Va

Okay, so in addition to Mongoose have a pretty different take on Wildeman than Travellermap, there seems to be a typo in the Third Imperium: Borderland book.

Note that the Travellermap one has been "rationalized" - atmosphere changed to VThin, and the size raised to one that can reasonably sustain that long term. Makes me wonder if there's a canon reference to native life...

Many of the changes in the T5SS (and thus Travellermap) are to rationalize the worlds so there are fewer uninhabitable rocks with medium and large populations.

The easiest way to justify a physical change like that would be to say the classic stats are the then-mainworld, outside the hab zone, and that the new version was a preserve with <5 pop in 1100-1110, but that the preserve was opened up at some point, and the various polities cross-colonized into the former preserve.

In Borderland Profile - Wildeman, Mongoose describes is as such:

Wildeman (B201674-C)

Wildeman falls into the category of ‘convenient gravity wells’ in
spacer parlance, i.e. it has little to offer beyond being a solid
piece of rock to build on. There is no atmosphere to speak of,
and its only water is locked into ice or buried under the rocky
surface. However, since both worlds in the system’s habitable
zone were unsuitable for colonisation as a mainworld, Wildeman
made a respectable third choice.

The planet was settled during the Borderland Rush by several
rival groups all wanting to become operators of the system’s
main starport. Those that tried to set up their installations on
Heaven or Nova Hades were spectacularly unsuccessful,
whereas those that selected Wildeman fared a lot better. The
result was an early history characterised by rapid construction
and intense competition for offworld trade. No clear winner
emerged for many years, making Wildeman an interesting
place to visit, but eventually the city of Rhavain achieved lasting
economic dominance. Rhavain reinvented itself as Wildeman
City in the 700s, and today is the largest city on the planet.

If what you say is true, and the UWP was changed as part of the T5SS, then why didn't Mongoose update it's publications? I don't know when the T5SS was made official, but the Borderland Profile book was just published last year, after the T5SS. The Alien Module 1 was published in 2009, I assume prior to the T5SS.

The only thing the change would mean is that you only need a respirator to go outside and not a Vacc Suit. :)

It also make the surface gravity much higher... Very small worlds tend to be less dense. It goes from likely Rocky core De ≈ 0.65 and Gs ≈ 0.16 to Molten core De ≈ 0.97 & Gs ≈ 0.485 (Using WBH and average rolls).

Very true, but personally I don't really take that into consideration unless the players will be spending a significant amount of time dirtside.

I do... as do several friends.

See, at size 2, 0.15G, and no atmosphere, high powered hand-held weapons can actually put bullets in near-surface orbits... It's possible to shoot forward and hit yourself in the back of the head...

At size 4 and VThin, they pretty much can't. And you can have local plants and small animals.

It is TL C - every single habitable area is an artificial environment.

Actually using the technology of the setting to reconcile size 1-3 planets with significant populations is a better way to do things than retcon the whole universe.

Traveller has too many of those as mainworlds. It's been a verisimilitude issue for many.

The T5SS retcon is Marc agreeing with the Dr. Thomas type complaints. And the issues of worlds of size ≤2 with standard atmospheres but maximum possible gravity under 0.2 G - which is not quite physically impossible - but requires incredibly exotic compounds, or incredibly hostile conditions.

You can terraform a small planet like that to add a standard atmosphere. And it will stay, depending upon a fair number of factors including your definition of "stay", for a few thousand years. But Traveller Canon doesn't have any direct examples of planetary scale engineering, except by the Ancients.

You mean apart from the one in the original Spinward Marches supplement:
The desert world of Thisbe (E4305AD 5) has undertaken a long-term project to divert large numbers of frozen water and gas asteroids from the Thisben belt to the planetary surface; the intention is an improved atmosphere and hydrographic percentage.
So there you have it...
and note its TL :CoW:
