Attacks of Opportunity

Well, not the way I read the 3.0 definition:

"A single extra melee attack per round that a combatant can make when an opponent within reach takes an action that provokes attacks of oppurtunity. One-half or better cover prevents attacks of oppurtunity."

I'm guessing this is related to your Marine in another thread.

If I remember right, using a ranged weapon in close quarters PROVOKES an AoO against you. I think there's a feat for making an AoO with a bow in D&D 3.5. Something like if one of your allies gets an AoO on a target, you can get one with your ranged weapon, too. Don't remember offhand which book, tho. But I'm pretty sure it's the 3.5 rules. Let me look around tomorrow.

I re-read the AoO rules in my 3.5 core book last night. Sure enough, it's a melee attack.

So much for Marine/Merc guy getting that extra burst attack every damn round.

Ok, I found two Prestige Class abilities - both in the Sword and Fist D&D 3.0 supplement, but no feats. For the Order of the Bow Initiate, there is Close Combat Shot that lets you shoot a ranged weapon in a threatened area without provoking an Attack of Opportunity - basically turning your ranged weapon into a melee weapon; and there is Free Attack which is what I listed above - once per round, whenever an ally within line of sight gains an Attack of Opportunity against a foe, you can take one ranged free attack against the same foe at your highest attack bonus as a free action. Both could be easily modified into feats for firearms.

Someone in my group brought up the Order of the Bow class specific feats.

I would strongly recommend to T20 referees to not allow such a feat in their campaign. In my playtesting with my group while we were running the Opportunist feat incorrectly it makes too big of an impact when you are dealing with guns that fire bursts. One arrow is one thing, a 10 round burst from a gauss rifle is something else. :(

Ok, I see you point. Brings a whole new meaning to Greater ManyShot. But then, Traveller combat is supposed to be very deadly...

hehe

You could borrow feats from D20 Modern if you want more gun related feats.

Look thes up in the SRD and see if any take your fancy:

burst fire
dead aim
double tap
far shot
point blank shot
precise shot
quick draw
quick reload
shot on the run
skip shot
strafe
weapon focus
