ATU & crossover maps

i was goofing around making 'strange' maps for Traveller & Trek, and came up with these:

----- WACKY IMPERIUM CONCEPTS -----

Most of the Major Powers as normal. Sylean, Terran, and Vilani empires coexisting at the same time. Terrans are not as racist as the Solomani (in OTU). Aslan Hierate having an (unknown) minor race as a significant presence. K'Kree space having a couple areas of destroyed worlds (from the ancient war era). Hivers pretty much the same, only having more interesting neighbors to interact with. Vargr space having more ancient artifacts. Zhodani space has a working ancient AI complex running a vast hollow asteroid, populated with bio-androids of races from across this version of known space, and several races nobody has ever seen before.

Minor Powers are different. They either control a single systen, or most of a subsector. Droyne being a small pocket empire of ethnic Droyne, with chirpers only found outside of thier enclave. Borg are something like a hybrid of their Trek version, and Cybermen (or even Daleks). Organians are kinda snotty evolved hypersapiens (who LIKE playing with the Zhodani). Rigel is the hub of a tradeworld cluster, where you can get almost anything. Kafer are just as aggressive and territorial as in 2300. Romulus is a pocket empire, founded by a group of vulcanoid exiles from somewhere else. Darrians are pretty much the same as in OTU. Pak are kinda like Ringworld Protectors (they maybe even have a ringworld). Bajor is an old world, with a spiritual people (much like on ds9) - they also have a wormhole, which DOES open into other 'verses (the different versions of Bajor on the maps CAN interact).

Would also like to find a place for the Sworld Worlds, some of the minor races, and have a small cluster of worlds somewhere in a rift. A couple of big space-based Stargates would also be easy to hide in the rifts.

The maps are based on a psuedo-3d principle. Each layer/level represents a "frequency binding layer effect" of the underlying 2 dimensional planar structure of Jumpspace. At certain predetermined locations, the Jumpdrive components can be "re-tuned" to operate on a slightly different sub-dimension. There are usually four "meta-stable" quantum sub-dimensions in a Jumpspace plane, though some theories suggest that as many as twelve more may be possible (though MUCH harder to access). Traveling further through sub-dimensional space is usually done via naturally occuring wormholes, or through some type of stargate. Misjumps from alternate universes can also travel across normal jumpspace boundaries. Jumpdrive re-tuning is a TL12 engineering required discovery. Components are relatively trivial (it IS a function of Jumpspace) - but calculation of tuning ratios, and crossover jumpgrid energizing sequence, does take a few hours. Frequent re-tuning increases the possibility and severity of misjump. Most multi-layer jumping occcurs at ferry points, with specialized vessels transporting modular cargo pods, passengers, and smaller non-jumpships "across the jump wall". Jump sub-dimensions are arranged in a loop, so jumping from layer 1 to layer 2 is a single jump, going from layer 1 to layer 4 is a jump-3, and going from 4 back around to layer 1 is a single jump.

----- STAR TREK RE-BOOT CONCEPT -----

Most of the Major Powers as normal - just shuffled around a bit. Map is set in the TOS period (or slightly before - April or Pike as captain of the Enterprise). Terran, Vulcan, Andorian, Tellarite, and Deltan spaces are shown in different colors (primarily for demographic/settlement purposes) - but all are part of the Federation. Klingon empire has two homeworlds (one from FASA - one from TNG). Cardassia is most definately NOT across the Federation from the Klingons or Romulans. Romulans are either the sneaky buggers from TNG, or the more honorable Rihansu version from the novels (but nosferatu Remans are still highly unlikely). Breen are a major power in one map, or just another annoying bunch of sprogs in the other. Tholians have been reduced, and Gorns enhanced (mostly because of Enterprise). Tzenkethi given a bigger empire just because i like the name (but don't want them to be Kzinti). Skorr are the avians from the animated series (or the cover of the first prime directive rpg).

Minor Powers, and worlds are different. Rigel is mostly based on the FASA version, with bits from Enterprise. Betazed is closer to Cardassian space (for the Dominion War storyline). The Bajoran wormhole has multiple connections to different 'verses (mirror, mirror 'verse is only ONE of them) - and the Dominion is NOT in the gamma quadrant (NOT even in the SAME galaxy - and NEITHER are the Borg). Mintaka is in Vulcan space (it may be a lost colony). Coridan is in Vulcan space because of Enterprise. Talos, Dimorus, Izar, Gothos, Nausicca, Deneb, and Centauri are on the map just because they're cool (if Gothos is 900 ly from earth - how far was Deneb?). The Jarada and Sheliak are just annoying sprogs.

Would also like to put some other empires outside this area, and to account for the OTHER Constitution Class starships - and THEIR missions... Maybe recycle some of the other novels/comics as adventures of the other starships. Plus the backstory from at least SOME of the Enterprise series. Maybe even decide just how MANY worlds were 'really' in the Rigel cluster...

The maps are based on a faster warpdrive / bigger Federation premise. It is a bit lower density - a hex on the standard subsector map being 50 or 100 parsecs across. The map levels being either 1 or 2 hexes deep. This is the INNER core of the Federation, the impression i got from the first pilot (and first season) - was that Starfleet had just recently had a MAJOR warpdrive upgrade. Also have to get a least a few more "stable" wormholes (to make hopping around the GALAXIES a LITTLE easier...) Voyager would be moved into another nearby galaxy, just to give them an exciting trip home. The Dominion would be located in either a different DISTANT galaxy, or a different parallel universe.

i posted the blank & populated maps on the gallery page:
