Babylon 5 Univerise (what do I need)

cdward

SOC-8
I mentioned the Babylon 5 universe book for Mongoose Traveller to a friend of mine who is normally a D&D player, but who likes Babylon 5 as well and he has shown an interest in starting a game, so other than then universe book what would he or I need to play?

I already have the Classic Traveller little black books as well as MegaTraveller, GURPS Traveller and GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars, ideally I would like to avoid buying Mongoose Travller as well, not because I have any objection to the rules but my other half would probably object to yet another ruleset appearing!

With Classic Traveller and Megatraveller at hand you should not have any
serious problems in using Mongoose Traveller's Babylon 5 supplement.

On the other hand, you can download a PDF of the Mongoose Traveller core
rules from Drivethru RPG for just 4.95 USD, and this could help with any pro-
blems you might run into during a conversion to CT or MT:

Or, another option: You can download the Mongoose Traveller SRD for free
from the Mongoose website, where it is a part of the Developer's Pack (see
free downloads at the bottom of the page):

I think strictly, Mongoose are stating that you need the Core Traveller Rulebook and High Guard to make full use of the Universe for B5 book that's coming out.

If you're looking at getting Mongoose's B5 stuff, you may have to be quick. The d20 1st edition books will disappear at the end of this month. The 2nd edition d20 stuff and the Universe of B5 book will be around for another year (2009). According to the State of the Mongoose address, announcing the plans for the next year, Mongoose won't be extending the B5 license beyond 2009.

There's more detail at the Mongoose website, where the book has been discussed in both the Traveller and Babylon 5 forums.

the core rules are Traveller Main Rulebook $27.96 from DTRPG.

The $4.95 rules are just Army and Navy CGen, tasks and personal combat.

The Univ. of B5 will have careers in there related to B5. Most, I imagine will simply be modified tables. A few will probably be full variations. But really, you should be good with Book 0 (previously mentioned), LBBs, and MT for core system material.

If you want to get any of those Mongoose D20 books, you might want to do that quickly. Apparently Mongoose is loosing the B5 license early next year.
