Brilliant Lances / Battle Rider

Hi!

I've been doing some Traveller stuff hunting around and about and seen the Brilliant Lances and Battle Rider Box sets available.

Could anyone give a description of what's included with these and the differences between them? Pro's/Con's mechanics etc. They're not cheap but I think I'm becoming a compulsive purchaser of Starship combat games.....

P.S. Been playing a lot of Power Projection: escort lately - fun game!

Brilliant lances is set more to starship vs Starship, or even small Ftrs, vs Ftrs.

Battle Rider is larger scale, using task forces/ sqaudrons, and crew quality. Both are excellent additions to the collector, and aren't that hard to play.

How well does Brilliant Lances work using fighters against small ships, e.g. the Type T 400 dton Patrol Cruiser?

Brilliant Lances is a detailed space combat game for small ships (sub 1000t) and small craft. If you want a detailed ship to ship combat game with a couple of ships a side then it's excellent. I wouldn't recommend it as a combat resolution for a role playing session, it would take too long.

Jame: Brilliant lances is designed for fighter vs small ship encounters, so works very well.

Battle Rider is a larger scale system, it's designed for playing out squadron level engagements with cruisers and battleships etc. I prefer it to Brilliant Lances, it's less detailed so it moves a bit faster.

The hexmaps and shipcounters in both are excellent and if you can find the games for a reasonable price the're worth getting even if you just end up using the counters and maps with another Traveller combat system.
