CC3 problem

I used to be able to load sector data from Travellermap.com. Now, when I try it, I get an error message.

I am guessing you are running on Windows 7 or 8.

For windows 7:
Open windows explorer.
Navigate to the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\ProFantasy
Right click on the CC3 folder and select properties.
Go to the security tab.

You have two options here. The more secure or less secure.

The less secure is to select Users (this is the local computer Users account) and make sure Write is checked.


The more secure way is to add your user to the Groups and user names window at top and give that named user write permissions to the directory.

That SCR file is created by the sector data tool. It is a script that CC3 uses to tell it how to build the map.

Windows 8.1

This is the same machine that I did the original Corridor maps before the change in the jump boat routes. But that was done back when it was running Windows 8.
Which I hate.

It appears to think the script is a screen saver???

I do not know how to set permission in Windows 8. You want to make sure that the tool can write the file to that directory. It should be running under your user. Your user should be in the local computer Users group. You just need write access to that directory.

Don't install in the Program Files folders for CC3. Vista, 7, and 8 have problems with CC3 changing maps.

I use C:\Profantasy\CC3\

I hang out on the Profantasy Forums, and I use CC3 often.

We should talk, I am working on Lemish's maps, as well as maps for the other planets in the system

I'm not a great mapper.

I do suggest gettnig the Tome of Ultimate Mapping. Monsen in the forums wrote it for Profantasy.

As for help on the Profantasy forums, weekends are not when Profantasy is there.

I've posted lots of questions there, not all got answered.

I have noticed an increase in users who want to do sf and/or Traveller maps.

My eventual goal is to map out Lemish and Weyland. I am not a great mapper either, but I got CC3 and about half the anuals. I don't have the time to do the study I need to learn the tools well, but I have been able to get by so far. I get by.

I have turned out a little over 2000 surface maps of my 1E AD&D world, http://crestar.drivein-jim.net/crestar/. It did take me years, as sometimes it was months between maps. I am making a new site http://crestofastar.drivein-jim.net/ to replace the other Crestar site. I am doing this due to some mistakes in putting the first site together.

I got better, you can see it on my site, as I worked on the maps.

CC2 and CC3, with all add-ons, for both. I mostly use CC3 these days. I have all the annuals, some of the ones from 2013 have deck backgrounds for Traveller.

My Traveller site, linked in my sig, took not long at all. But I used Fractal Terrains 3 and exported as a CC3 map file with png. The long time taken was due to menu additions, etc. I am slowly working on redoing the navigation on my Traveller site. I retire soon, and if my relatives will allow me some time, I'll improve and add to both sites.

Anyone should feel free to download my maps and use them in their games.
