Central Supply Catalog

I'm going to go to the local game store to see if I can find a copy to flip through. I figure if it lives up to the previews, it might be worth the dinero.

No luck. They had a bunch of Traveller stuff, but not Central Supply Catalogue. So I asked the dude behind the counter if he could order it for me. He said yes. Then he asked me, "could you spell that for me?" Uhhh... whoa. That must've been some party!

According to his database, it should arrive on July 13th.

It looks great, but didn't the Kian used to be a mammal instead of a bird? I'm looking at the Grenadier mini right in front of me and it doesn't look like a big bird.

I'll be adapting it for CT, I can tell right now that my players are all going to have the fanciest, heaviest handguns and submachineguns around after they see the section on sights alone.

Got mine, it isn't the be all, end all supply book, but it's good enough. It has all the goodies missing from the Agents book, some other nice handy stuff here and there.

The weapons run the gamut from cool to watdafugisdat. I do like the chemical cartridge lasers.

Only problem I see is that it has no vehicles at all, for which the civ and mil books are needed, with a nice number of around 150 dollars for the trio.:nonono:

Thats a wee bit stiff by my lights.

Got it. I haven't really had a chance to do more than flip through it. My first impression is that it's pretty good. Some of the artwork is really very good, in a way reminiscent of 2300 art. But the price tag... I dunno... I think I would have been happier if I had paid $10 less.

The store also had a copy of Hammer's Slammers. I was impressed. It looked much nicer than I was expecting.

It really looks good. :)

I would have preferred somewhat less military gear, but on the other hand I
am quite happy with the tech level information in the Rules and Background
chapter, the low tech gear comes very handy for my current little Fantasy
Traveller project, and my desert world and water world settings also will get
some most useful new equipment.

One very minor point: The information that no TL 0 culture has writing of any
sort is wrong, many cultures invented writing before they discovered the use
of metals (just think of the Maya). ;)

Phenomenal. Crunchy equipment lists! The graphics are excellent and it appears to be very complete. Picked it up with Agent yesterday so I will go over it more in-depth time permitting.

The Psi - Enhanced Battle Dress kind of reminded me of the Sabre Knights' armour from Bubblegum Crisis.

In all, a comprehensive list of tools and equipment. Very nice. A lot of weapons, but then you'll expect to see a lot of different kinds of weapons if you venture across the universe.

I'm slightly bothered by the fact that the textual component of the weapons and equipment don't always align with the graphic portrayal.

Also, I would have dropped the page sized weapons adds if favor of more game useful equipment.

Much (or most) of the archaic equipment looks a little too D&D for my tastes.

This supplement has way too much low tech, not enough high tech, and pages and pages of weapons. What is Traveller, a wargame?

I'd rather have seen a few pictures of high tech locations with a listing of all the items in the picture, for example: hotel room with gravity bed or a kitchen.

Maybe what is needed is another supplement with more art, showing how life is like at various tech levels and how does certain breakthroughs could really change how people live (i.e., anti-gravity, holograms). These could include other non-combat equipment, some vehicles, and how entertainment is viewed in the home (or aboard starships). Perhaps have 3-4 sections, showing the same scenes, but they would show how things might have differed through the TLs (like how a small town scene changes over the decades). Indicate what some items are within the pictures and have data on those items. Or, seeing it as a stylistic/flavor type of supplement, tie it to the OTU and how some scenes might look at different areas of the Imperium: Regina/Spinward Marches (TL 12), one of the TL 13-14 worlds near Core, Terra (it's TL 15, right?). Might even be interesting to see how those scenes might look on the home worlds of alien races.

Those are great ideas - pretty reminiscent of DGP's Starship Operator's Guide, but writ on a larger scale.

As I understand it, the entire hobby does have its roots in wargaming...

I like this idea. When are you going to do one?

I think you have some interesting ideas here; by all means, go ahead and do them up - turn them into magazine-style 'slice of life' articles, and they'll fit right in with what I'm hoping to be doing with Freelance Traveller, Real Soon Now. You could become one of my regular columnists!
