Cold Suits

Looking at an incorporating a new bit of hardware in MTU and would appreciate a few opinions, thanks !

The item I'm roughing out at the moment is essentially a vac suit that can also operate as a self-contained low berth for cold sleep applications. The idea being to allow for a rescue operations when the available number of 'fixed' low berths has been exceeded or in the situation of rescuing survivors-injured parties from vessels in distress.

One feature would be said suit being capable of connecting to the supporting systems of a cold sleep compartment or such having a 'mobile' unit much like the pre-launch 'suitcase' the modern world astronauts carry.

Based on the concept above, a cargo bay could be quickly reconfigured to become a cold sleep section but any compartment allowing for required space and 'mechanical' support might do in a pinch.

What takes a low berth to do (and do badly!) should not be done better or even as well with a vacc suit contraption.

So, my recommendation is higher tech, lower survival, bigger suit. If the vacc suit gets svelte and comfy at higher techs, the cold suit just becomes possible, and is more bulky and expensive than the vacc suit (Civ Std, if you play that way) at its worst.

A SWAG would be:
TL 14 Cold Suit 24 kg Cr120,000; weight includes a "suitcase unit" of 10 kg, which is necessary to hook up to the rest of the suit to put into cold sleep.
Batteries will allow monitoring and preserve life for 2 years without being connected to outside power source. Freezing requires some restraint/support or suffers an additional -1 survival. This can be lying prone and undisturbed on a couch, bunk or even the deck; being lashed (upright or otherwise) stationary to some rigid frame in zero-G will also work. Revival as normal low berth, -1.

TL 15 Cold Suit 18 kg Cr120,000; weight includes a "suitcase unit" of 6 kg, which is necessary to hook up to the rest of the suit to put into cold sleep.
Batteries will allow monitoring and preserve life for 3 years without being connected to outside power source. Lashing is not required; suit has light exoskeleton that locks joints. Revival as normal low berth, -1.
 
Umm. . .What's wrong with Fast Drug and a Vacc Suit?

Needs extra batteries.

Unless the suit could be dialed down to extend the duration :)

I allow it for high tech suits, via the suit's built in biotelemetry and onboard computer.

One thing I've had a problem with Fast Drug is that "vulnerability" bit. Living in slow mo for extended periods is (I think) gonna cause all kinds of pressure bruising and blood pooling unless you provide zero g conditions, at a minimum.

This book dealt with that: http://www.sfsite.com/10a/bh137.htm (The Burning Heart of Night). Organic ships that took decades to get to places, most people would go into induced fugue-state comas. A few were immune and could pilot the ships but lived in fugue time, wearing suits to help with the pressure/blood pooling stuff. And a very interesting alien race. I enjoyed it.
