Common Knowledge and the EDU stat

Spinward Scout

Do you use the EDU stat for Common Knowledge?

You should.

If you don't have a History skill, Etiquette, or something similar, that's exactly what the EDU stat is for.

- Do you know if you're supposed to eat Poogs in public?
- Do you know to say a silent thanks to those who gave their lives on the Battle Cruiser Allamu in the Battle of Two Suns when you leave the Starport on both Yres and Menorb?
- Do you know not to bow to the Duke of Regina, because he doesn't like pomp?

If you don't know, but think your character might, make an EDU check!

That's the way I used it, but, depending on the situation, INT, EDU or SOC is used:

  • What is this alien I see here?: EDU
  • Can I figuere what this signal means?: INT
  • Do you know not to bow to the Duke of Regina, because he doesn't like pomp?: SOC
  • What's this oppera (SOC or EDU)

I also modified it according the background (e.g. a former military offieer is more likely to know foreign ranks than a former prospector).

And in the case of SOC, in some instances you should roll over your stat, instead that under it (in situations where lower classes use to know more than higher, as street slang, etc).
