I found that you need to give CT characters a number of level-0 skills to get them to match the range of competencies of a T20 character, while keeping the CT character consistent with CT norms.
I think MT and T4 characters might be easier to translate directly, because of their higher number of skills.
As for ships and vehicles, it's been said before that T20 and High Guard ships are basically compatable, well within the fudge factor.
Ground Vehicles are a stickier wicket, I don't think it would be worth it to convert Striker or MT vehicles to T20, when T20 vehicles are easier just to design from scratch. (I don't want to ever open my copy of that piece of crap T4 Emperor's Vehicles again).
