Copyright Question

Blue Ghost

SOC-14 5K
Knight
I'm nearly about to send off my adventure and proposal to the RPG Realms folks, but I have a question about copyright.

How do I copyright a story or work that based off of somebody else's creation? Do I do it before I send the piece off for review, or do I wait and see what the Powers that Be have to say?

Thanks much for any reply.

I think what you want to look at is copyright covering derivative works. I looked into a couple years back but don't recall much of what I found out. This might get you started or at least define if this is the area to look at or not:

You definitely want to have all your ducks in a row regarding legal issues before sending it off.

The story is copyright the moment you write it, at least at present.

A derivative work can't be published without permission of the original owner. But note that what most people think of as "copyright" is actually trademark, not copyright.
