CT Merchant Prince character generator for Mac OS X

Merchant Prince is an Intel-only Mac OS X application that generates characters with a Merchant Service background.

It follows the rules in Book 7: Merchant Prince, published in 1985.

At each point in the character generation rules where the player may select options, these are offered, along with a description that includes the success die roll and die modifiers, if any. Thus, this app provides complete control over character generation.

A skill browser window shows all skills available in the program. An officer ranks window shows all pre-requisite skills needed for promotion to the next rank.

The zip file which contains the application and an extensive READ ME file can be downloaded from here.

My Mercenary, High Guard and Scouts apps (see previous threads) are also available at the same website.

Let me know what you think.

Version 1.1 is now available.

Enhancements
• The skill level limit of INT+EDU has been implemented by reporting to the Log in case the user wishes to use this rule and muster out the character.

Didn't notice until after release that this rule started with Merchant Prince. I've also added it to all my other chargen apps.

This is a dandy series of desktop tools.

Would you be open to a thread about the programming? I've been working on RealBasic for some simulations for Orlanthi clans for HeroQuest/HeroWars, but I keep getting stuck.

Note that it became core in 1982... with the release of "The Traveller Book"... and was in Starter Traveller as well.

It's not in the Bk1 on the CD, but I seem to recall it being in a later printing of Bk 1 as well.

That's probably off-topic for here, but if you want to use the form on my website to ask Real Studio programming questions I'll try to help. I may even post the answers to the blog there for others to access.

OK, so I got fired up and wrote a semi-long blog post on how I programmed these apps. It's on the blog on my website.

Programming Q&A in the software forum is OK, so long as it relates to traveller programs...

Got It, Apologies

I understand. Sorry, my question was badly phrased. I am interested in simulations for Aslan clans and other Traveller societies that use familial or quasi-feudal organization too.

Read the nifty article posted by Agorski on his website, and I'll follow it up there. Thanks.

Advanced Character Classes

There are a number of Advanced character classes in the FFE PDFs you might want to consider.

Just glancing through my 2 discs I see:

Skyport Authority (JTAS 19)
Imperial Academy of Science & Medicine (JTAS 22)
Journalist (Challenge 27)
Scientists (Challenge 29)
Police (Challenge 30)

Thanks! I'm missing Challenge 27 and 30 from my collection. Might have to pick up the PDFs some day.

For now, I'm working on Supplement 4: Citizens of the Imperium.

Version 1.2 is now available.

Bug Fixes
• Renamed the File>Print… menu item to File>Print TAS Form 2… for clarity.

Enhancements
• Character data can now be saved to a file.
• A saved character file can be re-opened for examination and printing.
