CT vs ? armor

Yo, y'all. Being stupik and all that, what is the conversion from whatever system uses 40E/F as the equivalent of HG Armor 0?

Specifically looking for a conversion table, if one doth exist.

Thanks

(yes, I don't have time to dig through all the books I gots.)

40E/F?? Are you referring to MT's default armor points for spacecraft?

Er, yes, I assume.

Am trying to translate some, I guess, MT ships to CT, and most of it is easy, except for the darned Armor.

So a table showing the conversion between CT and MT, or a formula (Like 3 MT points above 40 equals 1 CT point) would be most helpful.

Also, if GURPS is different, would appreciate the same, as I am gonna tackle 101 starships one of these days.

Thanks

I don't have a table but an easy way is to take a look at the % volume needed for a given point value and translating directly back to CT.

But what volume is that? If it doesn't list the volume...

It is disturbing to the force that sooooo many editions exist. Must use my Zhodi Knight powers to communicate with the Hive to change everyone's mind to believe that CT is the one and only...

Hmmmmm, Hmmmmm, CT is the one and only, CT is the one and only, hmmmmmm, hmmmmmm.....:file_19:

I believe your statement above is essentially correct:

[MTArmor] = 40 + [CTArmor x 3]
IIRC, in CT, the Gazelle has Armor Factor 3, while in MT the Gazelle is Armor=49, which fits the above formula.
It was a simplification of the old Stirker to CT Armor Conversion rules.

Dang, the WAG was right! Whoooohoooooopidoooo!

Thanks. Now what does all the funny letters afterwards mean?

The letter afterward is just the code telling you what the armor is made of.

MT Referee's Manual p.63:

ARMOR TYPE TABLE

UCP - Type

A - Soft Steel
B - Hard Steel
C - Composite Laminate
D - Lt Wt Composite Laminate
E - Crystaliron
F - Superdense
G - Bonded Superdense
H - Coherent Superdense
The armor type affects the mass and volume that the armor takes up.

It's in Striker, book 2, page 41...

with one caveat.

It works out to:

HighGuard012345678910+1
Striker/MT6064677072747677787980+1
Anything below 60 should be a 0 as well, but if doing it yourself, you may want to instead use the planetoid armor to do equivalents.

However, the planetoid and buffered planetoid are 50 and 56, so the striker based conversion is not a match to that (even tho' the armor types and thicknesses are), and are HG 3 and 6, respectively, so...

HighGuard012345678910+1
MT4044475052545657585960+1

Note that this is 20 AV lower than Striker gives.

Aramis, you are using the wrong Striker to HG table. It was issued as errata with the basic box.
Rule 75 the base rating for HG AV 0 is 40.

If you just use the rules as reproduced on the cd then you get this wrong.

Indeed, I'm holding (the now yellowing) errata sheet I got in my Striker box in the early 80s and it clearly says 0=40.

Thank you all for the help. My CT mind just couldn't grok the variables, dude.:(

Naw. CT is effectively dead except for the few of us gronards that are left. The future is in MgT and other possible, future offerings.

During an actual gaming session I usually have the Books 0-8 on the table, along with CotI, MT Imperial Encyclopaedia, T4 Emperor's Arsenal and T5's makers printed out in a folder. Character generation is mostly CT (+),
PC scale ships are LBB2 (+), so I would still claim to be playing mostly CT ;)

It's where the next generation wiill come from that concerns me.

MgT is in the shops, CT is easily available electronically and in pod as The Traveller Book.

Why T4 Emperor's Arsenal. It's a good book, yes, but how do you use it with CT's combat system?

I don't use CT 's combat system, the chance to hit is way too high and I prefer armour as damage dice reduction - so I can use the weapons from Emperor's Arsenal no problem.

Plus a whole book of Bryan Gibson's illustrations is absolutely priceless!

The weapon data is also usable with T5, so it sounds like it's a pretty ubiquitous book.
