Curious about the Traveller 3 ring binder

Tarrien

SOC-6
I have been curious for a long time as to when the Traveller 3 ring loose-leaf binder was originally sold and how rare it is. I have one that I obtained somewhere in the late 70's to mid 80's. It is the only one I have seen since. It is a standard 8-1/2"x11" 3 ring binder with about 1" high binding, black with a dark orange stripe and Traveller logo also in dark orange. Below Traveller it says "Science-Fiction adventure in the Far Future" in white and has Game Designer's Workshop in orange centered along the bottom. It was designed to look like the little black books. Does anyone know exactly when they were produced and how many were actually sold?

Welcome aboard Tarrien :D

What you have there is a very common piece of illegally produced contraband. You'd best get rid of it asap, I'll take care of it for you no charge if you send it to me...

:smirk:

...yeah, ok, so it's actually pretty rare and valuable :) I think I saw one on eBay years ago but don't recall how much it went for, over my budget anyway.

All I know about it is it's from about 1981 and was only available through special circumstances. Not sure what said circumstances were but I suspect they involved complicated legal forms turning over one's soul to GDW ;)

Data on the net is scant:

Traveller Illustrated Bibliography - 3 ring binder

and

Freelance Traveller - FAQ (about 2/3 down the page)

Thanks for the reply. I might possibly have picked it up at a game con. I think I went to an Origins back around 81, it may have been a promotional given out. I also have an autographed and numberd copy of the hardbound FASA Battletech Compendium that was only available at GenCon. I suppose a lot of companies had special stuff lilke that for convention use only. GDW and FASA, two great companies. It still makes me sad that they folded. It really makes me sad to see what Hasbro did to Avalon Hill. :(
