I've iterated it down to 700 tons (so far).

The Traveller5 definition of "Frigate", in brief, is "more guns than armor". A fuzzy definition, but I take it to mean it's not meant to stand in a line of battle, even a small one. Rather, it's meant to thoroughly intimidate unarmored vessels, or something like that.

I've only got one shift accommodated; I decided against three shifts... but argue with me.

Without stages or range effects, you just add up the weapon (MCr 2), the mount (MCr 4), and the mount modification (MCr 3), sum MCr 9. See B2p57-58.

Each half of the pair is installed in the carried hull, hence 3 Dt per 100 Dt in each of the carried and the carrying hull.

In the modern context, frigates are specialized platforms, usually defensive roles, slower and smaller than destroyers, or a large general purpose ship, kinda ersatz destroyers.

At eight hundred tonnes, this would be more a corvette.

Customs and revenue services seem to prefer cutters.

Your ship lacks life support (B2p87, Table C) and Control Consoles.

Pilots and gunners needs control consoles; presuming a CC for the pilot and a spare CC on the bridge, the gunners have a single CC to share which seems impractical?


Shouldn't a customs ship have a small craft to dock with civilians? I assume we do not want to routinely dock with unknown ships?

I'm not familiar with Ship Construction beyond CT High Guard, so I'll look at the intended use of the ship. Are you planning to chase off pirates? Board merchantmen to check that their papers are in order? Visit Belters on asteroids? Enforce quarantines / starport lockdowns? Answer distress calls? Does it need Jump capability? All of these will influence the equipment your ship must carry. I see a small craft that can carry a squad of Marines as a must; also a 6-G runabout to move emergency supplies fast.

Any IRL resources (books) you can find about Coast Guard life and duties would likely help you create a ship you are happy with.

I've only got one shift accommodated; I decided against three shifts

then it will be scut duty taken only by low-rated, deficient, or retired-on-the-job personnel, or possibly by dedicated patriots.
