"Dark Matter" Traveller-ish TV show

Hey, all. Just dropping in out of jumpspace to recommend a very Traveller-ish TV show that I found tonight on Netflix, called "Dark Matter". I've only watched the first episode, so no spoilers please unless you hide them using proper spoiler tags.

Episode begins with ship in space, and one by one the six persons on board wake up from some form of suspended animation or cold sleep. None of them have any memories of who they are, not even their names, but they do have some skills that surface when they attempt tasks with which they apparently had some previous familiarity.

That's about as far as I can go before I start spoiling surprises.

Anyway, if you have Netflix, give it a look and see what you think.

(That reminds me, maybe this is a good time to Jump over to the Spinward Traveller subforum to see what status is on that. I don't think I have received any Kickstarter updates for awhile.)

It has finished its run on the ScFy channel - the good news is it has been renewed for another series.

I agree that it is very Traveller-ish, and a fairly good show.

As to Spinward Traveller... <shudder>

You would think that after spending the weekend at TravellerCon/USA in Lancaster and playing over 20hrs of Traveller (and almost as many talking about it) that I would have had my fill for a few days. But last night, after the Giants gave me a mild heart-attack in their win over the 49ers, I was already feeling the familiar pangs of "Traveller Withdrawal" so I fired up the PS/3 and launched Netflix to check this out. As I was about to fire up the third episode I decided to check the time and saw that it was after 2am already. While I wanted to continue on the journey some small part of me reared it's ugly head and reminded me that I had to get up in a few hours to work today so I shut the TV off and went to sleep.

I must say that I really like the setup at the start of the series and it should be real interesting watching the crew learn more about themselves as the show goes on. I am already thinking about how I could turn this into a Traveller adventure, even one that I could run at TravellerCon/USA next year. So while my imagination and love or Traveller thanks you profusely for telling me about this show, the section of my brain that does time management will be cursing you for many months. :)

I've heard mixed reviews of this show...

*** Would anyone be kind enough to go over what they liked about it in a little more detail? ***

Shalom,

I liked the character development and the reactions of the crew as they discovered things about themselves. The overall feel of the ship and life on the planets was pretty good and I thought it would easily fit into a Traveller universe.

The few fighting scenes were pretty well done in general, particularly for a show that is not on a "major network".

Some of the tech seems a bit incongruous with the setting, but then what sci-fi shows doesn't have that. I can't really say much more without giving away plot points, but the first season has only 13 episodes so it is not a huge investment of time to watch it. They have signed for a second season, just not sure when it will be airing.

Spoiler alert... sorry, gotta say this...

Watching eps atm, onto ep#3, and just found the

That is a very good line. There are a few more as you go. I think the actress who plays the Android does a terrific job.

Rommie?! Wrong series ;)

OK, after a binge session all night (Hey, I'm on my rostered weekend, I go back to work on Thursday!) with all 13 eps, followed by seven hours in my low berth, man, is that a GOOOOOOOOOOD series :) Cheers for the heads up on it :) Can't wait for season #2 :D

Yeah, it is still awesome.

New season for it and Killjoys (another great SyFy show) started on July 1st.
The new season for The Expanse won't start until January.
