ok Hunter let slip that deadspace (place where jump engines and normal science laws don't apply) will appear in the gateway domain.
How about more info?
Or guesses.
My guess would be that it is either a natural phenomenon, but one that has only rarely observed, and is only just (in the Gateway era) becoming noticable enough that the major powers are starting to research it; or it is the result of an extremely high tech, hitherto unknown race messing about with pocket universe technology and getting the first few tries very, very wrong.
(Or its the jump space aliens finally noticing all of those shiny ships passing through their living rooms and deciding to investigate
It's involved in one of the "Grand Adventures" that are to be published. I think it's number four.
I have a vague suspicion that the Kafoe -- aggressive, powerful aliens that have appeared out of nowhere near the Old Worlds -- may be related to it. But I'm just guessing.
In an exclusive interview today a reliable source revealed that the so called "deadspace" phenomenon is in fact a hoax perpetrated by agents of the Solomani Confederation. The goal of the deliberate disruption of traffic was to create a secure corridor for Solomani Fleets to penetrate deep into Imperial space without opposition. While many of the ships investigating and reporting the phenomenon were part of the hoax a few were apparently either genuine in their belief or tricked by the Solomani tactics. The precise nature of these tricks are unknown to our source.
An official release is expected to confirm this startling revelation and assure all Imperial Citizens that normal travel will resume as soon as the Imperial Navy has cleared the area of all Solomani elements and devices. Until that time the area has been declared a Red Zone and ships are advised to detour widely and report any further Solomani deceit.
Dead space is caused by a series of cloaked, planet-sized metallic spheres which combine to exert reality-altering influence in the space around them. The spheres are believed to have been constructed by an unknown alien race, possibly from another dimension.
