This is an invitation to a Traveller game set in the Carmel (Deneb/Praetoria/0604) system in 1117.

1115-1116 was a prior game called “II Enri Adventures” set in this area, which ended with the Emperor of the Third Imperium being assassinated, the Vargr finding out and taking advantage of the chaos and raiding the system in force. Some of the people being invited to this game played in that and if they wanted to reprise those characters the option is there.
By early 1117, though, the Imperium is in trouble. Civil War is breaking out, Capital/Core is up for grabs, and the surrounding star nations are getting the word that things are getting weird. In a lot of ways, the Deneb region is on its own.
Baronet Carmel has gotten instructions from his boss, the Countess Praetoria, and her boss, the Duke of Praetoria that Carmel is expected to “hold your system”. The class B starport in the system hasn’t got a shipyard worth mentioning, and thus isn’t expected to contribute ships to the bigger picture. The system has a tiny population and isn’t big enough to be expected to contribute troops either. In short, the system isn’t expected to contribute to the defense of Deneb. On the other hand, the orders to “hold your system” are basically that the chain of command doesn’t really see Carmel as being worth expending much effort in defending, either, so any problems they face are their problems.
The Baronet ‘won his spurs’ at the Siege of Efate, and while he admits publicly he didn’t see this coming and screwed up by not having enough security in place to stop the Vargr raid, he’s also publicly come clean about experimenting with a Swarm of drones in one of the trojan belts in the system…. And that means he’s got an ace in the hole for building ships and equipment for troops.
He’s recruiting for a System Navy, so if you’ve got a Naval background, feel free to join up. He’s thrown out the former legal limit for the size of his personal guard, the Huscarls, and is recruiting them to levels “suitable for the situation, in accordance with the intent if not the letter of the law” - so if you’ve got an Army or Marine background, there’s a place for you. He’s also wanting more information about what’s going on: if he’d had even 24 hours more warning, the Vargr attack in 1116 would have had a very different outcome. To further that end, the “Carmel Information Association” is being formed, along the lines of the Scout Service.
The mining of the asteroids is also expanding, so the various guilds that support Belters are recruiting in a big way. Merchants are coming in and out, trying to make money in the chaos and Carmel
This game will be a full “sandbox mode” : players roll up characters, and operate in the setting. They can decide to join the military or not. They can play Belters, or a civilian planet side on any planet or moon in the system. They can play a in-system merchant, or a merchant working the J-1 cluster around Carmel. Get with me and make your character and we’ll go from there.
Play is on Discord. There’s separate channels for each general location people are likely to be, and the only restriction on posting is the “office-of-calendar-compliance” channel, which marks the current date: you can’t post ahead of that.
Multiplayer sessions are on the “West Marches” style: players can arrange a real-time session, played in voice on Discord at a time agreeable for everyone involved. Events/fallout/repercussions which occur that become publicly available knowledge will be posted on the calendar channel as the date is incremented.
Game mechanics will be Traveller5 in the background, and system agnostic in the foreground: If you make your char up in any release of Traveller you own, that’s fine, I’ll tweak as needed to make things work out.
