But, we agree, Icosahedron, in sending our best wishes to Dan. He's been a great mod for a long time. (And, just an all-round great guy, too.)
Wow, I just learned of this due to this thread. I will miss him also.
It can be tough doing it alone. I wish I would have paid more attention to the situation, but I too was (and am) dealing with Cancer and recovering from surgery, so I don't pay attention to everything here either.
Dan, you will be missed, both as a good moderator and a good, solid thinking poster on this forum.

FT hit burn-out.
In case y'all are wondering, being a senior mod or admin around here can be trying. It's not just the endless reams of spammers (30 more from one spam mill last night), but also the people who break the rules, then break them further in their complaints, then when they get called on that, turn into spammers.

I can imagine. You would think that gamers would be people who played well with others........ I hope we (us new deputies, with the shiny tin sunbursts) are helping somewhat.

FT, I hope you'll be back when you've had a few months R&R and the Traveller bug starts to bite again.
Nobody can do it all, and us rank and file fellows don't expect miracles. Just do what you can, ask for help when you need it, and hopefully keep the board going for us all.

Gosh, we're lucky with board I'm a mod for - running about 10 years with about 30,000 members and we've only ever had to ban 1 person for misbehaviour (other than the usual spammers). Out of curiosity, Aramis, we have recently been hit by a deluge of spam, I think it's all from China and it's all about selling jerseys / sweatshirts and the like. Fortunately none of it makes it to the board as it caught in a moderation queue and deleted there. We are seriously thinking of blocking all posts from Chinese IPs since we don't have any members from China.
We've had a long standing block on .ru ad .cn email addys. I can no longer find the nice map that showed assigned IP top-levels by region... If I could, i'd be blocking China and Russia.
We do have a couple users from poland, but they don't have .pl email addys. We've had a wave of polish mail servers.
