Favourite Amber Zone

One of the highlights of each JTAS was the Amber Zone adventures.

My personal favourite was "Aces And Eights", where an ex-army cark shark is murdered on a cruise liner and it all has to do with an old wartime atrocity and a coup d'état on a planet. Great stuff, and I ran it three times: The first went like a dream, the second time I had a player who was convinced various people were human like androids and would leap upon various NPCs and slit their faces to see if there were circuits under the flesh. The third time went OK but I had one player who was convinced the adventure had been made into a film and was insisting he knew all the story twists....he didn't.

I had a few on a short list of adventures I wanted to run as part of a campaign across the Marches but we never quite got around to them. :(

...

Some Amber Zones that I've had good mileage with:

  • I liked the lockbox one - it is quite good for bringing a bunch of characters together at the beginning of a campaign.
  • The ship in the lake - sneak a type-S into the middle of interdicted Stalinist Russia and salvage a bunch of crates of cash from an Imperial Payroll. Of course, it's all in consecutive serial numbers and isn't supposed to be in circulation. What could possibly go wrong?
Plus, the Komsomols have cute red-and-white uniforms ...
  • Homesteader's Stand - Reminds me of this, which really happened once.
  • Pride of Lions - rescue an Aslan noble from being hunted by a knob-end who lost a fight with him years ago. Good way to introduce your party to a patron who needs the services of some trustworthy humans.
