FF&S for CT

Providing detailed design layers in support of Traveller is a strength of Traveller.

Folks on the TML and COTI have told me that TNE makes significantly different assumptions about the TU than CT.

That's okay. What I'd like to know is what parts of FF&S can be used -- perhaps with modification -- as a layer under CT's starship design.

Take Book 2. It's a set of finished components for small starships. I would like it to be the output of a technical architecture system close to the level of Fire, Fusion, and Steel. Since there are FF&S experts in this forum, I'm asking for opinions and suggestions.

What parts of FF&S could be used? What in FF&S would need to be changed? And how can I use this resource in a way that causes the least amount of change to CT Book 2?

I doubt Book 2 ought to be slavishly adhered to; on the other hand, there are some key defining traditions that I would really like to preserve: for instance, the Type A Free Trader ought to have a Jump Drive A, Maneuver Drive A, Power Plant A, Model/1 computer, and cost around MCr37.

Most of the changes needed to bring FF&S back into line with CT were put into FF&S2 for T4.

A lot of stuff from FF&S was dropped, however.

The very high TL components that MT detailed were also missing from both versions of FF&S.

Sigg, thank you for that succinct and helpful summary. That reduces my search scope by half.

I've finally gotten to page through FFS, and there are things there that I really wish were in FFS2 -- the alternate tech stuff especially.

Stutterwarp! Stargates! Oh yeah!

And, of course, the high TL stuff of course is really needed to service the full scope of Traveller.

So, I agree. "Me too".

It's unfortunate that the corpus of neat stuff is scattered among three sources -- and different game systems to boot.
