Field Kit, Personal

PVernon

SOC-13

Does anyone have an idea just what this is?
Or what it could contain? How about a price?
I can think of a couple of things that it could be. I need this info for the latest version of the Consolodated Equipment List.

There are some other items in the survival kit from EPIC 1 that I have been unable to find in T20. I don't want to convert from a Cabela or REI catalog. It would be much better if the info were in an official T20 book of some sort. Please help!!!!!

Note if you have not seen the catalog it is on my site.

Could it be some variant of a hygiene kit? Possible items in such a kit at TL7/8 could be:

soap
washcloth
toothbrush/paste
comb
shaver
mini sewing kit (needle, 2-3 colors thread, etc.)
small metal or plastic mirror
nail clippers

Such a list could be somewhat shorter, or much longer depending on how nice the ref decided to be, or what the character decided to spend. Costs for this kind of thing could be (in present US$) 1-50 or more. The $1 level would be the kind of stuff you could get at a dollar store that would be quite flimsy and suitable for a few uses at most.

Thats one I thought of but the "field" part of the name sort of puts me off of that explanation. I also thought that it could be something along the lines of a gloified mess kit. Or how about both in one?

Hmmm... "...and the spoon does double duty as a pair of toenail clippers."

Yummy.

Actually, it's a Field Mess Kit. No longer used much, if at all, because of the amounts of water needed to keep them clean enough to be sanitary. Now the Army just uses paper plates and plastic utensils. I'm not even sure if the Army is still issuing them to troops any more.

Hi all,
Casey sent me the location of the description for the Personal Field Kit. It is in the play test stuff for the "Travellers Guidebook" so wile I am on vacation I will go through the info. Since the TG is not published yet I will remove the T20 survival Kits from version .72 of the "Consolodated Equipment Guide" and get it out right after I get back from Florida. So the new version will be out sometime durring the first or second week of December.

Chello!

Well, I ets-ed in 1991, but they were still issued then...of course in 3 years I N?EVER used the bloody thin--just something extra to sign for and keep track of. The US military does a lo of things becuase it's been done since WW2 (or longer!). Imagine what the Imperium's military must be like!!!

I can tell you a reason they are still issued: living off the land... certain units are expected to make use of local resources once emplaced. having a bowl, plate and eating utensils, especially since the bowl (the lid) can be used as a skillet, can provide for some useful bits.

as for keeping them sanitary: by the time you now rely upon them, keeping them sanitary is the least of your problems...

Now, back to topic:
Field Kit, perosnal, IMO, would include
bandages, variety of sizes... but not many.
antiseptic, small tube.
Comb, grooming
Comb, lice removal
tweezers
Nail clippers
Compass, magnetic, 2cm x 5mm
screwdriver, assorted common use bits
fishing line.
fishhooks (2 each in sm, med, and large)
Reflective thermal sheet
Spork, strongly built.
pocket knife, probably swiss-army-ish
water filtration straw, with spare filter
Flare gun, 7mm, with 5 flares
fire-igniter

Just wanted to to put out an update on version .72 of the equipment list, I have the PDF together, but we have had some problems at work recently so Brook (Tunuki) has not had time to update my web site yet.

Hey PV,

Did you ever get the data for the stuff out of the G:Bounty Hunters? My copy made it up to 'beside the computer' but not actually into an email for you. If you haven't yet got it, I'll make sure you get it.
Interested in stuff from the older Kieth Bros' products like Merchants and Merchandise or Scouts and Assassins?

<snip>
Or, TL permitting, why not just have a can of "Bandage" (item 211 on the consolidated list) rather than a variety of sizes of conventional fabric bandages.

I think personal field kits would vary depending on TL. A low TL kit might include flint and tinderbox, heliograph signal mirror, etc; mid TL kits might include matches and compass, windup radio receiver; high TL kits might have chemical lighters, laser signal devices, inertial locators (or GPS device), windup 2-way radio, etc.

Regards PLST

No I don't have GT: Bounty Hunters yet. And yes I would love to have any 3rd party info.

I'm on a release cycle at work then have to get from Ottawa to Oahu for a wedding on 31 Dec (not mine!) and then tour Pearl (Arizona/Mighty Mo) then maybe try to make it to Robin's Nest and Utah if I can find someone with a military ID at Arizona.

When I get back, I'll try to get to the missing data as soon as humanly possible. Kick me again a wee bit down the line.

Where in Utah will you end up if you get here?

Heh! Sorry, let me clarify!

Arizona - USS Arizona, bottom of the harbour, Pearl Harbour.
Missouri - USS Missouri, docked to the harbour, for a tour
Utah - USS Utah, submerged and sunk, with a causeway out to the location, accessed from within a military reservation (hence requiring military ID)

All in and around Pearl Harbour. All US BBs. Sorry for the confusion!

I figure when I'm in Hawaii, I owe it to those who fought to visit their gravesites. I'm a Canadian, but heroism and sacrifice by any nation are powerful symbols I like to pay respect to. If I ever get to 'The Wall' or Arlington, they'll get my respects as well, just as when I visit any other cenotaph, memorial, or ancient battlefield. I have plans to reach Stirling Bridge, Falkirk, Culloden, and Bannockburn as well. And Glencoe, although that is a bit of a different beast. One day when I have a bit more time, I want to get to Antietam, Shiloh, Gettysburg, etc. And I have plans to visit Normandy and Dieppe as well. All of course when time permits

There's an interesting traveller thought: If you're a rich traveller who wants to visit various military memorials, where do you go? It would have to be broken down by Sector or Subsector, but that might make an interesting thread.
