Freelance Traveller is going FANZINE! Effective immediately, our introductory issue, Number 000, is available for download at http://www.freelancetraveller.com/magazine/index.html - you can choose US Letter or A4 format. Beyond the format change, there will be other changes - but much will also stay the same! Read the Editor's column for more info, read the rest of the issue, and then let us know what you think!

Outstanding, Jeff! Outstanding!

I was one of the lucky ones to have some of his stuff nabbed for the launch of the Freelance Traveller web site way back when, and I remember how impressed I was with the look of the web site (and this was before you re-did the site to how it looks today--which is better!).

I'm just as impressed with the 'zine.

Andrew! Man, that's an awesome cover! Great work! I love that older, CT feel.

Which brings me to a question for Jeff. How much coverage are you planning on giving CT? Is the 'zine going to focus mostly on MGT with other stuff for other editions of Traveller thrown in from time to time? (Hope not--love to see big outlet for CT stuff.).

Curious.

Freelance Traveller never really has - and never really will - focus on any single version of Traveller. We have always covered - and will continue to cover - anything that our contributors choose to send us, for whichever system and setting. If we get material submitted for Classic Traveller, we will print material for Classic Traveller. If we get material for Mongoose Traveller, we will print material for Mongoose Traveller. If we get material for homebrew concoctions of stuff from multiple systems, we will print material for homebrew concoctions of stuff from multiple systems (and, after all, isn't that what the entire 'Doing It My Way' section is all about?). And if we get systemless/system-agnostic material that focusses on setting or on personality, we will print systemless/system-agnostic material that focusses on setting or on personality.

I, as editor, may be in charge of deciding what appears THIS MONTH; it is the contributors that ultimately decide what appears IN THE MAGAZINE (and on the website), just like always.

And I'm still willing to print stuff from you, if you're still willing to write it - just because there are newer versions of Traveller out there doesn't mean that I'm uninterested in older versions.

And that last goes for anyone who wants to try their hand at writing...

Agree about the cover, definitely has that CT feel to it.

Is artwork or deckplans of any interest, or is it best to concentrate on words?

Artwork is DEFINTELY POSITIVELY ABSOLUTELY UNQUESTIONABLY DIDILEAVEANYEMPHATICSOUT of interest. Artwork that's relevant to or accompanied by articles is also of interest.

Deckplans are also of interest, but should accompany an article about the ship that they are the plans for. Ship articles should be more than just specs for the ship and deckplans; they should include some 'color' information about the ship as well - IOW, why should a referee (or players) use your QengHo-class Free Trader instead of a Beowulf?

For submissions will you be sticking to canon-only, or will any CT submissions work after editorial approval?

Nice! Looking forward to it!

Officially, I'm going to say that the deadline is the Saturday/Sunday midnight after Thanksgiving (US) for issue 001 in January, but the reality is that I'll probably be taking stuff right up until I generate the PDF for posting.

I have some vacation coming up; during that period, I'll be webbing issue 000, writing submissions guidelines, and posting them.

Since Freelance Traveller supports any version of Traveller, and even has an "Other Roads" section for setting, I don't require ADHERENCE to Canon; I PREFER COMPATIBILITY with Canon - as an example, my own Lyman Drive, or Alex Goodwin's Densified Fuel Storage, don't adhere to Canon, but would not be extremely disruptive if imported into an otherwise canonical Traveller universe.

More information will be in the revised submissions guidelines.
