Fun Suit

Todg

SOC-13
(This came about due to a race of fun loving Otter-derived sophonts we called 'Poxyquotl'.)

The fun suit is a neck to toe tight fitting garment, which when activated, is nearly frictionless except at the palms and soles of the feet. It is ideal for slipping and sliding, and obviously makes the wearer difficult to catch.

Available at TL 9-10, the Fun Suit costs Cr1,000 when introduced. Batteries are good for approximately 1 continuous hour, during which the wearer should be treated as something like a greased pig.

For obvious reasons, the fun suit is banned on many high law level worlds, as well as several religious dictatorships.

Slick idea ;)

hmmm...I think a certain acrobatic and adapted to low grav / zero-g ex-carny Traveller would *love* this.

++++++++++++++++++++

/me hands a fun suit with smart fabric to Asu along with the accompanying control wand.

<Asu> !! (inclines her head to the side then straightens up and takes the suit with glee)

<Asu beams and scurries off to try suit out; skips back out wearing said suit in shimmering electric blue and silver colors>

<Asu> Yi*! (bows)

/me signals the goons to attack Asu; goons rush and attack Asu

<Asu lets a evil grin form, activates the fun suit, and with a happy squeal shoots up and away into the air when the goons try to grab her with a SPLOURT popping sound> WHEEEEEEEEEE! (laughing her hindparts off as she flips three times and lands with a skid many meters away in a perfect landing)

<Asu> ^_^
PHHBT!!! (scoots away at high speed still laughing, having changed the suit to a very bright flourescent pink while in the air; this temporarily blinds the stunned goons in the processes)

++++++++++++++++++++

And that's in normal gravity. In low to zero-g it'd be even more fun. Oh this is *SO* getting used IMTU. Thank you very much! :cool:

Originally, I saw an article about creating a near frictionless surface by applying a charge to a particular material. Alas, the article is long lost.

Electrostatic charges are being used for a lot of things already, mostly in scientific labs and the like, to keep out dust contaminants... I also saw one clever devil using some sort of device like it at one of the Fashion Shows... getting rid of Static Cling/lint from a very skinny lady's "dress"...

There is also one other application that eludes me at the moment...

If you shuffle around in stocking feet on carpet, and touch the cat...

What would be interesting would be a modification of this that would let you vary the suits outer surface character from slippery to clingy. Then you could go from spider man to the amazing greased pig in no time, depending on your situation.

Housebreakers and other rogues (as well as agents and spec ops types) would clearly love this one. And the police would despise it.
