Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I don't think it ever get out of experimental status, but the XM214 Vulcan 'Six Pack' did get trialled sometime in the '60s or '70s. The trouble was that it weighed 38kg with a 1,000 round drum and the 5.56mm M193 rounds of the day weren't very effective at range.
While it looks neat in practice, it was a solution in search of a problem. Most things you could do with it were better done with an ordinary machine gun (lighter) or a 7.62mm weapon (longer range). As an infantry weapon it was too heavy and used too much ammunition. As a vehicle mounted weapon it lacked the range of a M134 or machine gun.
OTOH, somebody (FPSRussia IIRC) produced a video of somebody actually firing a M134 from the hip. Still a solution in search of a problem, but probably loads of fun.
