I see no reason for a Backpack for High Energy Weapons. TNE.

So after looking thru the FFS I see no reason why a High Energy weapon needs a backpack. Its pulse cartridges contain all the energy needed to fire a Pulse. Per Power Production (Chapter 8, pg 66-67), Explosive Power Generator everything is contained in the Cartridge. The Homopolar Generator is part of the weapon.

So why is a "Magnetic Bottle" needed?

I understand about a cooling system which should be in the body of the weapon, but why a Backpack?

The classic laser rifle is a direct electrical imput laser not a chemical cartridge powered laser. backpack is battery and accumulator rechargeable from hi energy sourse like ship's power plant.

Now onto the high energy weapon example the magnetic bottle confines the plasma long enough to induce fusion. I would think you'd want the bottle in place before you fire, magenetic fields are slow to build compared to electrical fields so you need electrical input to generate the bottle before taking the trigger to the 2nd detent.
