To be serious for a moment. Corejob, how reliable is this info. I mean I looked at the blow-up of the tracker dart and based on the wire coil the thing is huge (relatively speaking). Its gotta feel like more than a mosquito bite. More like a wasp sting at least and its gotta leave a mark.

Are you sure this isn't some RPG invention?

Personally I think this is bogus, but it is certainly grist for the Traveller equipment mill.

It could work in theory, but there are problems (clothing would probably stop it penetrating, penetration/pain would depend on range, internal injuries are possible, tracker could break if it hits bone, etc)

It's not real-tech. a "...high-powered sniper rifle as the long range injector..." isn't going to be very picky about the depth to which it penetrates or how much tissue damage it inflicts, unless the dart is tiny enough that drag decelerates it drastically once it leaves the muzzle. And then it won't be so accurate.

And there's no way something like this would be a "...mosquito bite lasting a fraction of a second..." it's blunt. For contrast, one day when I was feeling stupid, and trusting I decided to see how hard my airsoft pistol actually threw its little plastic balls... I discharged the thing at the inside of my own left forearm. It didn't break the skin but left a memorable bullseye bruise. The displayed capsule is blunt. If it hits hard enough to break the skin it will hurt like billy-oh for some considerable time.

Of course that picture could be a high magnification, but RFID devices with tiny ranges are that big, not actively trackable transmitters. Think how large a handheld GPS unit or SatTrack box for a vehicle is. Does anyone think it's currently possible to miniaturise that radio tech into a dart that'll survive bullet accelerations? An RFID device would be a logical early development so cops with handscanners can pick out 'marked people' at checkpoints.

And it'd be so much easier to use indelible dye.

Just remember the SR117 Stealth figher was around for along time before they official told the public about it.

Interestingly the Hanzi (Chinese characters) translate the English sections fairly well or at least translate back to English. Granted I was using Babelfish and even it can be used to fake this.

FWIW the rifle design reminded me of the *huge* bipod rifle used by the Evas in Neon Genesis Evangelion.
