Imperial Census: Favorite Skills

That all depends on the game we're playing - general Travellers, merchant, military. And what scale: PC level, higher "I'm in charge of this Navy ship", nobility game...

So - it depends?

And honestly with Traveller (and most RPGs I play) it is all in how you play the character, not what abilities you that you want to maximize. At least for me. Had a game where one of the players played a barbarian - absolutely no useful skills for most of the game but the player & the others had a blast with the barbarian even if he could rarely help in any technological areas.

I just picked five that I like to have, not so much that they might be useful, although Steward and Broker can always get you a job on a merchant star ship, while Seafarer covers me for Steward and Broker on a nautical world. Survival I always want to have, and I do like Animals. Maybe get a job on a Safari Ship.

It all depends on what you want the skill for. Some skills you want per person; some per party. Some are easy to buy on the open market; some are generally non-transferable.

Art (Sculpture) isn't much use on the battlefield; Gun Combat isn't much use on a high-law world unless you are the law. Pilot is no use for surface based games; seafarer is little use on a desert world (unless you are sailing wind-runners)!

I always try for Medic, Gun Cbt, Streetwise, Admin and a shipboard skill of some sort.

@CyborgPrime, thanks for keeping ZeroG as its own skill - I wholeheartedly feel like it should NOT be subsumed into Athletics (Dex).

Also, thanks for the interviews you did last year with all those Traveller luminaries - great stuff!
