Integrating D20 Future with D20 Traveller

Hi.

Recently, I have been looking at integrating some of the rules from D20 Future SRD into my Traveller game. (The SRD is free on WOTCs site.)

The way I look at is that these Future rules were not available when D20 Traveller came out and if Traveller was coming out now, the rules would be incorporated now.

I keep the D20 Traveller rules in place and use the SRD rules to expand on a number of themes in the Traveller Handbook.

In particular, I have used the Hi-tech equipment, Teleportation, Matter replication, Genetic Engineering, Cloning, Nanotechnlogy and Cybernetics rules. Most of this stuff is not available until high tech levels in Traveller.

The SRD robots, vehicles and starships rules don't add much to D20 Traveller rules except "Robots as PCs" and a couple of features. The Traveller Science section has a good section on Jump drives.

The environments, Xenobiology only provided me with a couple of Events (2 Killer plants) and couple of Special Attacks for Animal Encounters.

Has anyone else out used these SRD rules?.

I've been looking through the stuff for a while. But working in the other direction, that is integrating some of the neat Traveller T20 ideas into the D20 Future ruleset.

I've found a whole lot of interesting material from other D20 Modern games. One of the large books of guns was rather helpful in getting more Traveller weapons. The D20 Mecha SRD (From GOO, but their site is currently down) was helpful, but that's because I'm a gear head.

I'd certainly toss out the T20 chargen and replace it with d20 Future's, it's much more straightforward and you get the same result (ie a playable character) in the end for much less hassle anyway.

What do you guys use for ship combat? I'm a total non gearhead

And I wouldn't/don't want to convert all the CT/GT ships that have been done for T20 to D20 Future stats?

thanks

Mike

I'm using D20 Future & Modern to create a new non traveller) background for the game, set a mere five hundred years in humanitys future. As for traveller It has some pretty good ideas in keeping with the canon, such as genetically engineered humans (Franks & Moreaus etc) which fit very well with the Solomani sphere of influence in which genetically engineered and uplifted species are slightly more common than they are in the Imperium. Cybernetics is useful, though nanotechnology remains beyond the prevailing tech level of the Imperium and its neighbour. My rational for this is that it has been deliberately suppressed by the Imperium and neighbouring governments because it would shatter the law of supply and demand, thus destroying the social cohesion of trade that underpins the societies of the Imperium and its neighbours.

I was working on a document to combine the two sets of rules. Obviously every one has their own set of preferences as to which rules to start with and use.

I liked the D20M class structure (basic/advanced/prestige), skills, feats, and most of the combat rules. I liked the T20 classes better so I was retrofitting them into the class structure. I borrowed a modified version of the T20's Technical skill and a few feats. I liked the T20 starship and vehicle combat rules more so was borrowing them.

Did you need any help with the document?

IYO, were there any conflicts between the ship combat rules and the personal combat rules in d20 Future and T20?

thanks for your work so far.

Mike

I'd keep T20's ships and space combat over D20 Future's, any day of the week. D20 Future is very weak in those areas.

So, yes, there are conflicts. Choose one or the other, but don't bother trying to integrate them.

My two credits, anyway,
Flynn
