Interpreting the Art of Cardboard Heroes set 1

In looking over the 57 paper miniatures for the old 15mm Cardboard Heroes Traveller Set 1 (Adventurers), I have some observations and some questions.

First the cameos. A number of figures are fairly easy to recognize from various SF venues.

T1-50 is clearly Mr. Spock of "Star Trek."

T1-30 is obviously Luke Skywalker, from that movie by "Gene Lucas" <g>.

T1-16 is Cody Starbuck, SF comic book space pirate hero.

T1-37 looks like he stepped directly over from Jim Burns's "Spaceport" painting.

T1-20 looks like an administrator from TV's "Buck Rogers," perhaps Dr. Huer?

T1-13 looks familiar, but I can't quite place him. Perhaps a comic book?

I wonder if there are other cameos that I don't recognize?

My main question, however, has to do with fashion and armor . . . (Continued on next rock.)

Interpreting quilted material

My main question, however, has to do with fashion and armor. Very few of the figure descriptions mention any armor at all. Four of these figures have a similar type of quilted clothing, and I wonder if this stuff is supposed to be an armor of some kind, or if it is merely skiffy high fashion?

T1-15 is a guard, and so his quilted vest/serape implies "armor."

T1-24 is an "elderly scout with snub pistol." He is wearing a quilted cap, quilted cape, and quilted hip boots (!). So he's either dressed like an Austin Powers dandy (another one straight from "Spaceport" by Jim Burns) or he's ready for combat, I just don't know which.

T1-25 is a "patron" with a quilted coat and a sword in his powerful yet manicured hands.

T1-38, "belter with flak jacket," has a quilted vest.

So maybe, =maybe=, the quilted clothing is meant to represent Cloth armor. Or maybe not. I'm wondering what others think, if they have any opinion.
