I've been hacked! So embarrasing...

far-trader

SOC-14 10K
...but I have to send fair warning to anyone I might have had occasion to email. I'm trying to alert everyone in my address list (as they are most likely to be hit) but I may miss some. Besides, this gives everyone a chance to laugh and say "never happen to me"... just like I was doing ;) before this :o

The hacked, and now spoofed, account is an old dump account (From "J" email "onechaos") but that may have led to my regular account being compromised as well (far_trader).

System sweep and burn done, passwords being changed, then probably for good measure I'll do that again... or just throw the whole computer on the autumn leaf pile and drop a match on the lot of it ;)

This has the old Luddite bug burning in me again :nonono:

Apologies in advance for any inconvenience and here's hoping your software and wetware security features are better than mine were.

What's a "Luddite bug"?

And, I'm not sure just dropping a match on top of a computer would do anything. Or help anyone.

In this case every so often, usually precipitated by some stupid or pointless bit of technology or an idiot abusing the same (or me being the classic pebkac* using the same), I have a barely containable urge to join the Luddite movement.

* problem exists between keyboard and chair (in case you were going to ask :) )

A Luddite (probably more properly a neo-Luddite) is a person who fears or loathes technology. Originally Luddites were 19thC English workers who violently protested against machines taking over their jobs, chiefly textile manufacturing iirc. They'd burn the newfangled automatic looms and such, again iirc.

You missed the bit about the leaves, I'm sure they would kindle the fire to roast the computer nicely :)

...but yeah, besides roasting a hotdog and some marshmallows over a potentially toxic fire it probably wouldn't help much :)

My two choices for for silicon relief is
1st a 12 gauge shotgun but most municipalities frown on this form of relief :(
2nd a 12 lb sledgehammer - takes more time but more satisfying :D and who knows some neighbors might join in with there silicon headaches :D

Save the computer and throw the hacker on the leaf pile instead...

I still think anyone who willfully damages the property or security of thousands or greater numbers of users should be removed from the gene pool.

It is neither funny nor innocent. It costs people time, money, and peace of mind to be screwed with by these children. Unfortunatly a lot of them are hiding in other countries where they are out of reach.

Did I mention I hate Hackers?????

I must create this now...

I want to be a Luddite! What's their website?

Thanks a whole lot, I laughed out loud well beyond the delicate sensibilities of my office mates. It would have been a key board kill if I was drinking my soda at the time.

Kilmore, if that was not intended to make us laugh you should find someone to feed you straight lines more often.

Thanks for the laugh.

Oooooh... (lightbulb goes on)

:D

I feel such a dunce for that one flying over my head. Your comedic brilliance was wasted on me :( (luckily Burocrat was here to clue me in ;) )

Normally I'd have gotten it right off. Better late than never, your much deserved...
