JTAS Issue 1

Does anyone know if JTAS issue number 1 ever comes available for sale, trade or auction?
If so how much does it usually sell for (approximately)?

I have JTAS issues 2 to 24 and issue number 1 is the only one I need.

I know they are all available on CD-ROM but I am specifically searching for the paper print version.

Thanks

:)

I got my copy a couple of years ago in a bundle of JTAS issues purchased from an individual on RPGGeek for $12. You occasionally see them on eBay if you are patient.

Thanks.

By the way I noticed in your sig there is a link to CT chargen software.
Did you write those?
I use them all the time and I find them excellent.
If it is your work then I mailed you a year or so ago to thank you for making such great programs.

Many thanks

Heh -- I bought mine (i.e. just JTAS 1) in the late 80's for $20 from a guy that had it. I'd never seen one before nor since, so I just grabbed it. He was happy to sell it to me ;).

Nice score Whartung. Got mine when I bought the three volumes of reprints from FFE some time back. I know, its a reprint, but its in dead tree and I got them ALL!!!

same here. I have 3 original numbers bought some years ago as old material on a book store, but the rest are FFE reprints

You're welcome! Glad to hear you're enjoying them.

Yea, I have the whole set, all originals. They're in a plastic crate -- somewhere (I think the garage, not sure though).

I recall my LGS having lots of them, just languishing, so I went in one day and bought one of each that they had remaining. I got, like, 8 of them. They had them for quite a while.

It's curious -- since learning indirectly the "intricate details" of the gaming business from the closing of GDW, notably that games can't be returned but books can, it was curious that they kept these things. I wonder if they could not send them back for credit (because they were "games" and not "books"), or simply chose not too. Challenge was most definitely a magazine, and magazines get returned (a good magazine has a 65+% return rate -- crazy I know. A GREAT magazine has 50%). So I dunno if the JTAS was some middle limbo, or simply that's how they were negotiated with the game dealers.

One of the notable things about this store was they had these bins stuffed with old adventures and modules from all sorts of games. They just lived there, you would thumb through them as you like, they didn't take up a lot shelf space. The JTAS were not in that bin (since they really didn't fit the format), but those bins were pretty much where Old Game Stuff when to die and absorb dust.

Well here's an interesting situation.

JTAS issue 1 has just become available on Noble Knight Games website.

It is in VG condition and includes the original mailing cover!

The interesting part is that it costs 95 USD!!

As this is the one item that would totally complete my collection of LBBS and Journals 1-24 I would have paid the 95 Dollars plus 12 Dollars shipping just to have my collection complete but I have just wiped out my funds on another item only a couple of hours before I saw this.

The item I spent my last remaining funds on: Traveller 5 Core Rules Book.

It was meant to be!! ;)

Well, he doesn't have JTAS 1 right now, but another good place to find old Traveller stuff, some at bargain prices, is:

Wayne's Books

Thanks agorski

I have purchased quite a few CT items (amongst other things) from Wayne. Most recently JTAS issues 2 and 3.

I find Wayne to be extremely efficient, great communication and totally hassle-free.

I will keep an eye on his website.

Right now I am totally broke financially due to ordering the T5 book...75 Dollars plus 60 Dollars shipping to Ireland. If my wife finds out she'll kill me!! But I think it will be money well spent.

JTAS 1 will have to wait for now :)

You could always get this, and resell the others on again.

JTAS 1 isn't all that rare really. $95 is way too much, $10-15 is more common from what I've seen.

Thanks for that.
I would love to do that but JTAS 1 is the only issue I need and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of reselling issues 2-24.

If I had the funds to spare I probably would bid on that lot purely on impulse :)
