Laptops & Traveller GMing

Yep - remember the joy of a big honking handle on huge, 80 lbs PS/2s which I lugged around along with 20+ inch CRTs and a large bag of cables and input devices - and glad its a memory...

'Hand held', cords free, multi-touch devices are a gaming dream come true for me (at least till keychain sized DLP projectors and tiny X-Box Kinect style systems can supplant them ;) ).

Just played around, I could put files like this into my iPod photo album.... :)

Looks like you have the idea! :)

Just the basic functionality supports
- images that can be scaled (nice for 'revealing' maps)
- recording and playing back sound effects and 'messages' (in other voices)
- pdf based material can include books and character sheets
- notepad and calendar functionality (and calculator of course)

Organization is also provided for (albums, categories, descriptions).

A few low cost, if not free, downloads should provide die rollers and spreadsheet like functionality (and there are probably several RPG specific character sheet apps available).

For added fun - throw in 3D viewers and interactive programs (form entry) and access to the internet (wiki's, maps, whatever).

Granted - the iPod is a bit small (though the display is exceptionally crisp at >300 dpi!) - but for ~$200 U.S. and no monthly fees, its a bargain compared to any new netbook, laptop or desktop. (Though access to one of these is generally necessary.)

Enjoy!
