Laser Rifles On The Way

Well at least one Chinese entrepreneur is selling the concept-

I am doubtful about 1000 shots too.

Which begs the question, should we have a lower 'stun setting' or at least less damage option?
It's been speculated that may be a means to get around the whole "not allowed to use lasers to blind people" treaties and such.

Also isn't that marketed to breakup demonstrations and such?

pretty much.

one of the problems encountered during laser weapon research was that when you hit a human target with a laser bolt, the surface layer of skin would boil and ablate, forming a little pocket of gas on top the skin, which absorbed a huge amount of energy. the net result is that you get a nasty and painful burn, with a loud crack sound as part of your skin basically explodes, but very little lasting damage. I believe their is some knock down effect as well but I;m not sure.

The Chinese are more likely to use lasers to blind American pilots over the South China Sea, rather than issue them to their semi professional troops, who are more likely to engage in friendly fires.

The target market of that device is specified - it is the Peoples Armed Police (PAP). The intention is for riot control, etc.

But don't let that get in the way of a thousand clickbait stories eagerly re-spawned across social media.

Well that's the point, these are devtech versions and not the full-powered ones we model. But if you can have TL 8.1 laser rifles that do say 2D damage, shouldn't you be able to flip a switch and do that for the full powered ones?

There is a video released purportedly demonstrating it in action and it was very underwhelming. It appeared about as effective as the DIY 'laser rifles' that people make on youtube.
