Library Data

Hunter,

I have noticed when the website was revamped the section for Library Data disappeared. Having contributed a slew of it...I was wondering if it was going to return or does it take up too much space. If so, can others find a site devoted to library data and we can all begin to contribute again?

That's funny. Looking around the free section of this site, I can see a lot of useful stuff still here...

If I'm going to pay for material, I want it to be printed published material. Those will have more quality control and less rubbish of meanderings and musings, enough of that finds it way into print as it is.
That's your choice. However, QLI are asking people to pay largely to (a) support the website and (b) get access to playtest material and to contribute to new products. Anything else is just a perk - personally, I think that's pretty justifiable.

(Though I'm not really sure why the Odd Jobs, Imperial Encyclopaedia, News Wires, Today in History, World Surveys, and Species Catalogues should be something people have to pay for to see, considering that the surveys and catalogues at least are somewhat buggy. But that's up to Hunter. I don't think many people would really pay to see those specificially anyway).

Frankly, I've been very puzzled by the inclusion of the Library Data in the 'pay to view' section. For one thing, a lot of the work that people put into it was done under the impression that this was going to be a free resource. I've refrained to comment, however, partly because I didn't want to be a dog in the manger and partly because I've been feeling guilty about how little work I'd done on the LD after my initial spurt years ago.

But another reason why I'm puzzled is that I can't understand why MM allows Quicklink to charge for doing something that he allows others to do for free. At least, I think that if you want to see library data, all you have to do is google for them. It's more inconvenient than having access to them here on Citizens of the Imperium[*], but who ever said life was supposed to be easy?

[*] Henceforth to be known as Second-class Citizens of the Imperium?

Ironically, perhaps, I'm still listed as "Imperial Librarian" (which means that Hans and I were able to edit and validate entires in the CotI Library Data files) and yet I'm not able to access the Library Data. I agree that the Library Data should be returned to the public/free section of the site -- the information in it isn't original to QLI, the same info is available elsewhere for free, and it's not like Hans and I were getting paid to edit/maintain it!

Also the library in the Moot lacks an index so any term has to be searched for. No idea if all the entries are still there.

Isn't this thread more for Website Issues really than Lone Star?

Casey

update- reported this post so mebbie Hunter will get an index back on the library data and if need be move this thread

What more and more????? Nothing has moved to the Moot that hasn't been there since I opened it in June.
