Frankly to me, this _is_ everything you all are trying to do here. Need a map? grab one of your nearest airport or KSC. Really I see _no_ need for this product other than pure lazy GM's. Which is fine, but let's at least be honest about it.

All that is really needed is the encounter tables and Marc's draft provides some of the best I've seen yet for that. Some still need work, but the rumor table is to die for.

If you are so stupid that you can't describe a port and map it at least mentally as you do so, WTF are you doing as a ref?

IMHO and all that,

William

It's a PDF. If you don't have an Adobe Acrobat plugin for your Web crawler, you can't see it...

Oddly we have winzip at work-not adobe. Ironically-I have Adobe at Work, and my Winzip proggy there doesn't work on Home compy!<sigh> I'll look at it in daylight later today! ;)

***Au contraire mon William! NOT just lazy GM's.. some of us have families and lives outside of gaming, and time is always short for everyone-Do not presuppose/ or assume this is "JUST for lazy GM's." Twould be a false assumption.

As I do not have Adobe Acrobat on this state owned compy at work-I'll have to see it in a few more Hours before I render MHO on that, William, 'kay?

William, I see your analogy "the lack of imagination = stupidity, why be a Ref here." I know where your point of view comes from, and some levels I can concur.
BUT.. I look around and I see people who work 8-12hrs, want a wee escape from RL, and run their game and are pressed for time-- this guide would be a godsend for them.
If its *not* for you, by all means don't buy it/ get it. Hunter had this idea, we've been kicking it around on LoneStar several weekends now..and now he's given it a green light. Its gonnae be a group effort- something those with good ideas here on this forum can look back one day and say-"Yeah, ANd I came up with that for Traveller!"...

I'll leave you with that..Good evening/ morning William. Thanks for Your opinion, again!

Also, as someone who plays in the boonies, and may spend lots of time solo...I've always been a trader, and I need a tool to quickly generate unique starports. Yes, I have GT:Starports, and the T5 writeup...I also have JTAS, Supplements, World Builders Handbook, and several other tools...NONE of which enable me to QUICKLY generate a starport when I'm crusing the spaceways with my cargoes...I don't have the time or inclination to spend several hours with GT:S designing a starport that I'll spend maybe an hour of gametime in, and then never see again...
So, rather than say every Starport of a certain caliber are all identical for game purposes, I'd like a tool to make the experiences unique...

It takes all kinds to fill the spacestation.

That was way OTT and I appologize for that to all here.

While I see what you're saying, I guess to me, throwing up a port takes maybe 10 seconds. But then, I've flown to way too many contries thanks to Uncle and other Biz, that being able to describe a starport by using, say, Hong Kong International as a start point that it's just automatic to me. As a result I expect everyone to be able to do that.

I'll leave you with that..Good evening/ morning William. Thanks for Your opinion, again!

Good luck on this project and I'll stop being a grouch about it. Heck, in the end I'll probably buy it anyway, I'm that kind of grumbler...

Having done considerable traveling (as opposed to travelling), I view this project as a way to break out of the ("this port is based on Newark Airport") paradigm. I like ports that are emphatically removed from our century and our planet. And though I'm pretty creative, I like the shock of the ideas produced by other people - they are (not surprisingly) quite different from the ideas generated by my own creative juices. And it is *difference* that makes Traveller fun. This is a tool for difference (a Difference Engine, even...)
